South Africa Racing – Zietsman can bring in the new year with a bang

Popular Eastern Cape trainer Zietsman Oosthuizen may have battled a bit to find a way into the winner’s enclosure when he relocated from Kimberley, but he has now found his feet and the winners have started to stream in.

This season he does look to have his yard in very good shape.

Two runners from his stable that look to have a decent chance of scoring are Jacob’s Ladder in Race 4 and Querari Ferrari in Race 7.

Jacob’s Ladder has found his very best form of late and is seeking a hat-trick of wins after scoring twice this month.

His wins over the course and distance (Polytrack 2000m) and over 2200m were quite emphatic which tends to suggest that he is well above his current rating.

A penalty of nine points may not be enough to stop him, especially with Muzi Yeni back in the saddle aboard this Duke Of Marmalade gelding.

Querari Ferrari probably needed her local debut. It is interesting that Oosthuizen has opted to drop her down in distance slightly. She is sure to be a fitter mare this time round and she is a tempting each-way selection in this competitive race.

Dive Captain was a bit ahead of her last time out, but she has the form and heart to reverse that result.
