Triton let his followers down last week but is quickly tried again and bettors are expected to recoup all their losses and then some at Greyville on Monday.
Trainer Carl Hewitson and jockey Sean Veale have been in good form. Veale, in particular, has been on fire, and it would come as no surprise were the duo to also score with Gimme A Rainbow, who like Triton is knocking hard at the door.
Triton confirmed his dislike for the Polytrack last week but back on the turf in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 2000m, he should get back to where he left off. He lost his penultimate race, which was on the turf, by a short head to Billy Bazooka who enjoyed setting his own fractions. While Triton almost got to him Veale lost his reins and Triton was also carried in.
He gave the impression he could have kept going and so this 2000m appears ideal.
Gimme A Rainbow has previously only won on the Polytrack but his last two races on the turf suggest he has wins to come on grass.
He was a stubborn third at Scottsville a few months ago but he looked even more dangerous when flying up behind Knight Warrior at Greyville a few weeks back. Given a better draw it could have been a different result and he now looks certain to finish ahead of re-opposing runner-up Captain Who, who has drawn badly.
Race 7 is a competitive event but placing a meaty eachway bet on Gimme A Rainbow in this MR 73 Handicap over 1200m, looks the way to go.
Tarantino lines up in Race 5, a Progress Plate over 1600m. He is always useful to back for a place as he has run with the best around, and although expected to win many times has finished not far behind the eventual victor in strong fields. He has finished runner-up to subsequent Queen’s Plate winner Jet Dark, Eastern Cape champion Global Drummer (three times) and star sprinter Real Gone Kid and yet has only won twice in 14 starts.
But he was eye catching on his Greyville debut and now deep into his four-year-old time, is expected to make the required improvement.
Strongly fancied favourites often triumph early on the card and in Race 1 Exceed Expectation should make a solid local debut based on his Cape form, while Tempelhoff looks a step ahead of her opposition in Race 2.
