South Africa Racing – Follow in-form Fourie

Richard Fourie is riding like a man possessed. Since relinquishing his duties as stable jockey for Justin Snaith, for whom he continues to ride winners, Fourie has found a new lease on life – to the tune of seven winners at the last two Kenilworth meetings!

He rode a four-timer on L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate day, which included a feature-race treble for Snaith – among them the Grade 1 Paddock Stakes – and on Monday rode three winners for three different trainers.

And while at the top of his game, bettors should cash in on Fourie’s hot streak at the next Cape Town racemeeting on Sunday 23 January.

First-timers Call Me The Breeze (Snaith) and Trompie are worth a market check in Races 2 and 3, respectively. Both hail from top yards and Fourie’s booking bodes well for their chances.

Vaughan Marshall saddled the winner of the last two-year-old race in the province and teamed up with Fourie to win Monday’s opener, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise were Captain Of All colt Trompie to attract attention ahead of his debut over 1000m.

She’s My Captain, a filly by the same sire, should land Fourie in the winner’s box for the father-daughter training partnership of Harold Crawford and Michelle Rix.

She’s run fourth, third and finished second twice in her last four starts and a return to 1200m should suit Fourie’s mount who was slightly disappointing over 1000m last time.

Glen Kotzen has benefitted from Fourie’s availability at recent meetings and the pair have combined to great success.

Official Secret was steered to victory by Fourie in her last start over 2000m and a return to that track and trip in Race 6 should stand this daughter of Twice Over in good stead, despite a seven-point penalty.

Progressive Long White Cloud, from the stable of Eric Sands – for whom Fourie also rode a winner on Monday – has won two of her last three starts and should continue on an upward trajectory when she reappears in Race 7.

This Northern Hemisphere-bred Cable Bay filly has Candice Bass-trained Dancetildaylight to beat but should acquit herself competitively under in-form Fourie.
