South Africa Racing – Some horses to follow at Greyville

Both Ride On and Little Miss KJ are fillies to follow.

Jackson filly Ride On has a plum draw and the way she travelled in her first race suggests Greyville will be ideal. Jackson’s daughters have been better than his sons but more importantly they have been very good at Greyville.

Little Miss KJ was eye catching at the business end of her debut but showed plenty of inexperience hanging all over the place and from gate No 8 she could do the same round the turn, allowing Ride On to get away. The pair run in Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1000m.

A Win bet on Ride On and Swingers with Little Miss KJ is the way to go.

Admiral Birnham took his time in getting to learn his trade but now that he has, he should go on to post more wins in his current division. More importantly, he has shown a distinct liking for the turf rather than the Polytrack, finishing first and second in his last two on the grass.

On paper, this good-looking gelding has patchy form but back over the course and distance on which he scored his easy maiden win, he rates the banker in all bets. You should get a good price about his chances.

He takes his place in a MR 68 Handicap over 1600m where main danger, The Appeal, has drawn wide and is away from the surface over which he last won, the Polytrack.

Highly regarded Winter Air was heavily backed in his first start out of the maidens but duffed it, over-racing and not finishing off the race. He is quickly dropped in trip and has the best of the draws but expect him to jump at competitive odds because although he will be up to the task, he now races in a stronger field.

An each-way bet on Winter Air in Race 6, a MR 86 Handicap over 1200m, is the way to go.

He looks another horse to follow.

Race 7 is a Pinnacle Stakes for three-year-olds over 1400m where some of the best of that age-group in KwaZulu-Natal square off.

It looks quite open but the vote goes with Party Time who was second in the Grade 2 Gatecrasher Stakes over 1200m as a juvenile. He has since been running as if he now needs a little further and being a son of Vercingetorix, should relish the extra 200m.
