Championship-chasing Paul Peter has had a tough time of late trying to win races in KwaZulu-Natal, but things could swing in his favour on Monday at Hollywoodbets Greyville when they race on the Polytrack.
Ygritte should start things off nicely for favourite followers as the chestnut daughter of William Longsword looks hard to beat in Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1000m.
Ygritte was backed to win a competitive race last time and hit the front looking the likely winner before getting caught late by promising Canadian Summer.
The latter had impressed on debut as well is due to run in a Listed feature on Saturday. Should she run well in that race, Ygritte will go from a warm to a hot order on Monday.
Nicely bred colt Seattlegreenlight showed potential in his debut on the Highveld but along with Ygritte tries the poly first time, has drawn a bit wide and may get into it late. Wulfston has decent form but is dropping in trip, so the bet of the day looks to be the straight-line Trifecta of Ygritte, Seattlegreenlight and Wulfston.
Peteca could have left a bad taste in the mouths of followers last time when beaten as 1-4 favourite. But he was racing after a rest and gelding and was only beaten a length. He can make amends at a better price as the race has a lot more complexity. He will strip fitter and now has experienced racing on the Polytrack.
He runs in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1700m.
The rest of the card is made up of the usual ultra-competitive stuff and there should be plenty value in some of the handicaps. Lightly raced Elusive Dream impressed in her maiden win and could be quite underrated.
She could be the value bet on the day as she looks better than her opposition in Race 4, a MR 63 Handicap. However, she has drawn a bit wide.
Another worth an each-way dabble is Varvacious in Race 7. She disappointed a bit in her last few but a glance at her one loss to likely favourite Star Act reveals she is 4kg better off for 3.35 lengths and this time she races over arguably her best track and trip.
