South Africa Racing – Value to be had at Greyville

It might have the look of a bread-and-butter meeting at Greyville on Monday when they race on the Polytrack but there are some quality runners taking their places and as usual there looks to be plenty value throughout.

Honey Land has a promising pedigree being a Duke Of Marmalade out of a Captain Al mare and she has already confirmed ability with a pleasing fourth placing in a juvenile plate. That field looked strong and back in maiden company in Race 2, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1200m, she could take advantage.

And she may just jump at better than average odds due to their being some very well-bred first-timers in the line-up. Petit Verdot and Shantastic are both bred to be fast.

Eddie The Mover showed good speed in sprints but has been beaten as favourite and could be deemed a disappointing sort. However, as a son of Vercingetorix and he should prefer a bit of distance and, having been given more than two months off to mature he could jump as a furnished product.

It looks a strong race with Ensuing, Wiley Riley and Firu Star all looking to have some sort of serious claim and Eddie The Mover may be allowed to start at generous price.

Worth a solid each way bet from the best gate but box the others mentioned with him to catch the Trifecta and Quartets.

All the action happens in Race 3 – an open Maiden Plate over 1400m.

Famous And Rich should take on the role as hot favourite in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1400m, after flying up to take second. But he jumped at 50-1 that day and it could be that his role as favourite could be false one.

Older runner Wave Warrior showed some ability at the start of his three-year-old campaign in the Highveld, but he seemed to have soured as the months wore on. But in his last start after making the move to KwaZulu-Natal he produced a much happier and composed finish to take second in his poly debut and being older and wiser he could teach the youngsters he meets a thing or two.

Other each way types to follow on the day include Luna Eclipse (Race 5) and Queue Wing (Race 8).
