Jockey Richard Fourie drew a rare blank at Kenilworth on Wednesday 13 July, managing only three sixth-placed finishes and two seventh from five rides on that eight-race card.
His many followers, however, can look forward to him bouncing back with a bang on Tuesday when racing returns to the Cape Town track for another eight-event meeting on the Winter course.
Justin Snaith-trained Gimmethegreenlight filly Pacific Green made a promising winning debut for over 1000m but fluffed her lines when contesting a two-year-old feature on Cape Met day.
She proved that run was all wrong, though, when returning from more than four months out to finish a creditable fourth in open company over 1100m last month and should resume winning ways under Fourie in Race 2 over 1000m.
Body Electric was also a winner on debut over track and before blotting her copy book second time out. She too should go well after a break and can included in Swinger and Exacta bets.
Grant van Niekerk and S’manga Khumalo have both ridden Innamorare to second-place finishes in the Master Of My Fate colts two starts and it ought to be third time lucky for Snaith’s charge when he lines up in Race 4 over 1400m.
He was second on debut over 1000m and confirmed that promise when filling the runners-up berth again over 1200m. He should improve over the extra 200m to shed his maiden tag and appears the best bet on the card.
Well-bred Navy Strength took time to come to hand and proved costly to follow as a maiden but the decision to geld the three-year-old son of Dynasty has proved a masterstroke.
He opened his account at the 10th time of asking after consecutive seconds before a creditable post-maiden effort, on favourable terms, in the Grade 3 Legal Eagle Stakes (formerly Winter Classic) over 1800m.
Snaith’s charge was raised a hefty eight merit rating points for that effort but should be hard to beat if reproducing that sort of form under Fourie in Race 7 over 1950m off his revised mark.
