Ipoh Racing Preview By Mark Lydeamore For 3 Sep

Saturday’s seven race program at Perak Turf Club will commence with the 1400m Chenderoh Lake Handicap where the top two horses in the weights should be vying for favoritism. GOLDEN SHOW and RULE THE WORLD are backing up from their encouraging performances last weekend where both were placed in KL and Penang respectively.

GOLDEN SHOW came with a late surge over 1200m in Penang last Saturday but does step up to the distance where he has been successful three times in his career. The six year old posted successive wins in July where his runs were spaced eight days apart so the quick back up should not pose a problem and also benefits from the 4kg claim. RULE THE WORLD flashed home for a long neck third over 1700m in KL last Sunday. The seven year old’s only Malaysian victory was recorded at the track and distance on July 10 and a return victory would not surprise. D’GREAT OCEAN was beaten a nose at big odds last start so is regaining form despite not winning for two and a half years. It took MARTIN VJ twenty four starts to break through locally on Track Two over 1200m in KL and has placed over Saturday’s trip previously.

The 1000m Kenyir Lake Handicap (Race 7) should provide an enthralling clash to wind up the card of racing. From the Selangor trials on Tuesday, DRAGON CAVALLO stood out as one to watch following his easy trial win with the blinkers/pacifiers. The six year old formerly known as Boom Shakalaka resumes for the leading stable of HY Cheng, a stable synonymous with producing first up winners from Singapore. DRAGON CAVALLO will be pitted against the inform SUPER SIXTYONE who is on target for a hat trick of wins. The gelding is yet to score at Class 4 level but receives his chance following his decisive wins at his past two Class 5 outings.

TRAVIS was the subject of a questionable ride (see Stewards Report) in Penang on July 30 and is a chance to bounce back into winning form in the 1400m Raban Lake Handicap (Race 3). The booking of senior jockey, SU Lim is a plus and might prove hard to beat. SECOND CHANCE was a track and distance winner two starts back could be a danger while SILVER JOY had no luck after being caught wide on his Malaysian debut and can improve.
