Ipoh Racing Preview By Mark Lydeamore For 4 Sep

Only a small six race card will be conducted at Perak Turf Club this Sunday, which includes a  Maiden event, the Bidor River Stakes over 1200m (Race 3).

Former New Zealand galloper, GOLDEN QUEEN can break through following a couple of eye catching trials in KL before debuting with a solid 3rd at the same track a fortnight ago. The four-year-old mare was placed twice from ten starts on the Shaky Isles and should be the testing material despite barrier 10. LION KING had attracted market support in each of his four local starts but raced below expectations last preparation. He has been off the scene since January and draws well so his progress will be closely monitored this campaign.

WINNER NUMBER ONE is on the verge of a winning return in the 1100m Bernam River Handicap (Race 5) after two seconds in a row behind the inform Super Sixtyone. The seven-year-old is a fast beginner but with the likes of LION CONQUEROR and SIMLONG BEACH engaged, there will be a fierce contest for the lead. Winston Cheah rides the gelding for the first time and should benefit from the 2kg claim. FAST AND SUPER, a first up winner previously, resumes and he travelled strongly in a trial here on Tuesday.

While on the subject of fast beginners, FA FA STAR loves to lead and gets his chance to break through in the 1000m Perak River Handicap (race 4). The five-year-old backs up from his 2nd at Penang last Saturday when he was overhauled over 1200m but with the drop in distance and back to home territory, he looks a chance to lead throughout. TRINITY GRACE is another fast beginner who will be prominent for a long way while DIAMONDS on the downgrade has been competitive against harder opposition recently. Another trifecta chance is D’GREAT JOURNEY who possesses a good record in this grade and has been a consistent performer this season.
