The 1400m Cosmo A contest (Race 3) will headline the nine race card at Penang Turf Club on Sunday. ARC TRIUMPH (2) and the locally trained CHINA CAPTAIN (4) ran the quinella in a 1400m race last month and both a set for a rematch over the same journey. CHINA CAPTAIN prevailed after a slow start that day and produce a sharp turn of foot in scoring by a half length. The six year old has won seven races over the past twelve month period and will be dropping back from his unplaced effort in the G1 Ipoh Coronation Cup three weeks ago.
ARC TRIUMPH (2) has been competitive in the higher grades this season and despite only scoring once this year, the eight year old is yet to miss a place in three runs on the northern circuit. The interesting runner will be WATCH THE THRONE (1), who created a big impression locally when winning at his first six Malaysian starts after debuting at KL in July 2020. The seven year old found the 1400m a fraction too far when produced first up for ten months on October 23 but will strip fitter when he travels outstation for the first time. RELAU STAR (5) was a 1400m winner at Ipoh on October 29 and wasn’t disgraced when finishing 4th in the Charity Cup at the same track a week later. LIM’S DASHING (6) indicated he was back to better form with a fast finishing 2nd in the Charity Cup and appears the best hope of the lighter weighted contenders.
SUPER SIXTYONE (6) appeared uncomfortable on the shifty surface at Ipoh three weeks ago after the track received a heavy deluge prior to his engagement in the last race of the day. It may pay to forgive that run as the seven year old will be looking to bounce back at his second appearance on the Penang track in the 1200m Class 4 contest (Race 9). Of the others, BAGHDAD (11) is close to breaking through in Class 4 grade while I’M SMART GREY (7) failed to handle the wet track when first up in KL a month ago. SHENG PROISIR (1) and OUD WOOD (9) are racing in good form but both require luck from their respective outside draws.
