Selangor Racing Preview By Mark Lydeamore For 1 Jan

A 1075m Combined Class 2/3 event (Race 6) will headline the nine race card at Selangor Turf Club this Sunday as Track Two (Inner Track) will be utilized on successive days for the first time.

One of the country’s most progressive performers in the past season, GAMESTONKS (3) makes his long awaited return to the races as he attempts to maintain his perfect record. Unbeaten in four Malaysian starts, the six year old will be first up since winning the 1200m Salisbury Racecourse Trophy at Penang back in July and with his fast early pace, he looks a genuine contender of going five from five. However, he will be up against the race fit KONG FU PANDA (4) who has experienced a successful campaign this year with five wins and posted his first group placing in October when finishing runner up in the 1600m G1 Selangor Gold Cup. The four year old couldn’t see out the 2000m trip in the recent G1 Piala Emas and the drop to this grade and this distance should suit. MOON FACE (1) is yet to miss a place in five local runs and was a winner in this company over 1100m at the end of October. The six year old led and was run down over 1200m last start but will have the services and claim for inform apprentice, R Nuqman.

We don’t normally place much focus on the Class 5 races but one galloper which has been knocking on the door in recent weeks is the AB Abdullah trained TOPNOTCH (2), which is coming off five placings in a row. The gelding finally receives his chance to break the bridesmaid tag in Race 9 over 1775m and will try and emulate his only career victory back in April, scoring over 1500m when racing under the name Rings Of Fire. The top weight SILENT PRINCE (1) has been tried over various journeys in the past year but his last two efforts suggest he has the hoof on the till also. This galloper is adaptable to any racing pattern as he can sit on speed or come from behind and he could prove hard to hold out from the good barrier. SMART INVESTMENT (5) has descended down the ratings and looks ready to run a forward race at his fifth run back in Class 5 grade. This gelding draws well also and was unlucky not to finish in the placings last start.
