The Penang Turf Club will host their first on course meeting for the 2023 racing season this Saturday with a couple of Class 4 events being the high graded races on the eight-race card.
One of the better bets on the program is the inform DRAGON CAVALLO (2), who steps out in the 1300m Class 4 contest (Race 3) on his first visit to Penang. The 6yo has already established an impressive record in Malaysia posting 3 wins and 2 placings from 5 starts and is coming off a 1075m victory in KL a fortnight ago.
DIRECTOR (1) is on the downgrade and his record at Class 4 level places him in good stead. After being outclassed in the recent G1 Perak Coronation Cup, the 9yo was well supported last start when finishing midfield in a strong Class 3 race here on Christmas Day.
PERFECT MISSION (6) draws wide but he normally settles near the back of the field and can unleash a genuine sprint when called upon. He is a track / distance winner previously and his chances will be enhanced if a wet track prevails. TALENTED (4) returned to his better form last start while GEORGETOWN (3) is on the quick backup following his placing at Ipoh last Sunday.
OUD WOOD (8) has been testing the patience of his followers in recent starts as he attempts to break through at Class 4 level in the 1100m Class 4 contest (Race 8). The 5yo has placed six times in Class 4 company and will be seeking to atone for his head defeat here three weeks ago. On the minimum 52.5kg, he has the weight advantage on his rivals.
HANDSOME BOY (3) resumed with an unplaced effort in KL on December 11 but will strip fitter for Saturday’s outing. Connections have changed to a senior jockey this time with Jackson Low riding the horse to a win early last year.
GOLDEN SARDINE (2) has made steady improvement since coming across from New Zealand and may be one to watch third up while MAGNOLIA BLVD (7) doesn’t win too often but has descended down to a competitive rating.
