A new year with hopes of wealth and prosperity will be celebrated at the Selangor Turf Club this Monday as we usher in the Year Of The Rabbit. The rail returns to the true position as Course A will be in operation for the Chinese New Year race meeting in the nation’s capital.
The 1100m Peace And Happiness Stakes (Race 6) will be the headline act on the twelve race card with talented sprinter AWESOME STORM (2) will be searching for a form turnaround following his failure in the 1200m Penang Island Cup on Christmas Day. The five year old boasts an impressive record of 7 wins from 10 local starts but put in his worst performance last start when he led and weakened in the Penang feature. Despite the outside draw, he returns to home territory and still possesses the class to bounce back.
However, there will be stiff competition from the progressive MOON FACE (4), which supplied rookie apprentice Tuan Ammar with his first winner on New Years Day. From barrier one with the pull in the weights, the gelding looks well placed to record his fourth victory in the country.
The speedy mare GINGERELLA (3), with a record of 3 wins at the track/distance, can never be left out of calculations as she can make her own luck with good speed from the barriers.
With an abundance of early pace in the high grade contest, HANDSOME BENZ (9) could provide the minor upset as he possesses a quick turn of acceleration when saved for the last sprint.
Race 6 Selections: 2 – 4 – 3 – 9
Trainer Tan Eng Peow has recently acquired his “A” licence to prepare a team in Selangor and stable acquisition, HADEER (4) looks a chance of opening his winning account in the 1200m Class 3 contest (Race 8). HADEER (4) resumes from a four month break and has trained on well judging by his trial behind Moon face here Tuesday week ago.
RESOLUTE (3) had little luck when the saddle slipped in the Penang Island Cup last start when finishing midfield. The six year old took out the Perak Charity Cup last season and jockey Rueven Ravindra has never missed a place in five mounts aboard the gelding.
Despite creeping up in the weights, VULCAN (1) is in career best form and looks a chance of notching the hat trick. His last two victories have been decisive and will be hard to hold out from the good draw.
DRONE (9) has been placed at this level before and gets in well at the weights while BLEU MARINE (11) rises to this grade for the first time following three wins in a row.
Race 8 Selections: 4 – 3 – 1 – 9
