Selangor Racing Preview By Mark Lydeamore For 4 Feb

Course A4 (rail out 4m entire circuit) will be in operation for the two days of racing at Selangor Turf Club this weekend. Visiting jockey, Vitor Espindola rode his first Malaysian winner aboard the HY Cheng trained Happy Magic in a 2000m Class 5 contest last Sunday, his second ride in the country. The nineteen-year-old Brazilian has been awarded with several mounts this weekend, many with genuine winning chances.

The 1100m Class 3 contest (Race 7) ensures a good clash featuring progressive performer, FA FA STAR (4) who is racing in career best form for trainer Simon Dunderdale. Apprentice jockey Tuan Ammar has shown potential from a handful of rides steering home his second career winner last Sunday aboard Travis and will use his 4kg claim to full advantage on the gelding. The five-year-old will be facing stiff opposition from WAR DRAGON (3), a seasoned campaigner who drops back in grade following his unplaced effort in a Metro A contest last Sunday. Now at eight years of age, WAR DRAGON (3) has not won for 16 months but still possesses a quick turn of speed, which he will require in his endeavors to catch the speedy and likely leader FA FA STAR (4). Interesting newcomer for the HY Cheng yard is BE BEE (6), a former two-time group winner as a juvenile in Singapore. Now an eight-year-old, the gelding will be first up since July and looked well when placed in a trial during the week. RADICAL FORCE (1) has a good third up record while KRUGER (5) is a trifecta chance also.

Another former Singapore galloper looking to break through in Malaysia is the AB Abdullah prepared SAFEER (6), engaged in Race 5. The eight-year-old started attracted market support at his local debut here last Sunday and despite finishing 2nd in the 1100m contest, he will strip fitter as he looks to break his winning drought of 1289 days. RAGNAR (1) usually performs well first up as he returns from his decisive four length victory over 1500m last November. SYMBOL OF COURAGE (9), a former Class two galloper, has descended down the ratings and was back in form when placed last start. LIMITLESS STOUT (5) should improve on the quick back up while GENERAL QIN (7) returns from a bleeding attack and wasn’t overly taxed in his trial here on Tuesday.
