Race Preview

Race 1 – PRIX DE PHILANTE –  1900m CL2. Purse EUR €22,000.

  1. GAODIO – Beaten 3.5 lengths into fourth when resuming last start over 2000m at Pau All Weather. Strips fitter and expected to feature.
  2. ZVIKOV – Lightly raced galloper resuming from a spell. Hasn’t raced since breaking through for a maiden win over 2000m at Toulouse on December 2. Rates highly.
  3. TURN CARTWHEELS – Won on debut with a bit to spare at La Teste over 1800m back on September 3 and has not been produced since. Can play a significant role.
  4. PERAMA – Resumes. Finished off last campaign with a maiden win by 4.5 lengths over 2000m at Pau All Weather on October 29. Rates highly.
  5. SUPERIOR BEAUTY – Resumes. Finished off last campaign with a maiden win by one length over 2000m at Nancy on October 30. Prefer to see.
  6. KANZA – Has looked good in her two career starts, most recently scoring by 2 lengths over 2100m at Pornichet. Key chance.

Summary: A tricky event with five of the six runners arrives on the back of success. PERAMA (4) made a promising debut when third here before readily landing a 2000m maiden on the AW at Pau. Leading claims after a break. ZVIKOV (2) represents a top stable and commands respect on the back of a 2.5L win in maiden company over 2000m at Toulouse. Impressive La Teste debut scorer TURN CARTWHEELS (3) must be considered alongside GAODIO (1) who is proven at this level.

Selections

PERAMA (4) – ZVIKOV (2) – TURN CARTWHEELS (3) – GAODIO (1)

Race 2 – PRIX DE SAINT-EMILION –  1900m CL2. Purse EUR €22,000.

  1. DIZZY – Last appeared four-and-a-half months ago when she finished 14 lengths from the winner in ninth over 1600m at Saint-Cloud. A big run would not surprise.
  2. AGADOR – Progressive type who opened this prep in good style, scoring by 1.5 lengths over 2150m at Cagnes-sur-Mer. Top chance.
  3. PRINCE ANODIN – Back to earth last time out when third over 2000m at Pau All Weather. Makes appeal.
  4. FLY D’ASPE – Working towards a win, the latest effort a solid third over 1600m at Pau All Weather. Rates highly and can break through.
  5. WONDERFUL TIMES – Returns after a break of five months. Last raced when successful by 4 lengths at Newcastle All Weather (UK) over 2050m on October 11. Capable of picking up where she left off.
  6. BURNING EMOTION – Resumes from a break of five months. Finished tenth at her most recent appearance over 1438m at Musselburgh (UK). Will need this run.

Summary: Having won three of his four outings to date AGADOR (2) looks a nice prospect. The son of Caravaggio picked up well to land a 2150m Class Three conditions event at Cagnes-sur-Mer a month ago and is selected to continue his ascendency. DIZZY (1) will find this easier than when ninth in the Listed Prix Isola Bella – Fonds Europeen de l’Elevage at Saint-Cloud in October. Interesting contender going up in trip after a break. PRINCE ANODIN (3) finished third in a 2000m Class Three conditions race at Pau AW last-time-out and cannot be dismissed. Ready Newcastle AW (UK) maiden winner WONDERFUL TIMES (5) looks an interesting new recruit having hailed from a top yard for previous connections.

Selections

AGADOR (2) – DIZZY (1) – PRINCE ANODIN (3) – WONDERFUL TIMES (5)

Race 3 – PRIX PHILIPPE GENET –  1600m MDN. Purse EUR €21,000.

  1. EMERALD LAKE – Resuming here. Only one placing in six career starts. She was poor at the end of last preparation. Looking to others.
  2. VILLA GUIBERT – Hasn’t threatened in two runs back from a spell. Finished 13 lengths from the winner when ninth last time out over 1600m at Pau All Weather. Likely to struggle again.
  3. GENNY DANCE – Returned from a spell with fair effort last start when sixth, beaten 1.75 lengths at Pau All Weather over 1400m. Prefer others at this stage.
  4. ADELA – Resuming. Played no part in the finishes of her three races last preparation. Others preferred.
  5. LALAAKEY – Finished ninth when fresh from a spell last start, beaten 12 lengths over 1600m at Pau All Weather. Will come on from that run. Shortlisted.
  6. POPPY CARREW – Showed ability in the maiden campaign and is back from a spell today. At the latest outing she finished tenth over 1300m at Deauville All Weather on December 20. Deserves plenty of thought.
  7. JIEPIES MELODY – Has not raced since finishing 13 lengths away in seventh over 1500m at Deauville All Weather on August 23. Among the main contenders.
  8. EVAMIS – Stepping out at this track for the first time. Last appeared when she finished fourth over 1600m at Pau All Weather on February 15. Has the right credentials.
  9. LA MOMY – Came from a wide gate and could only manage to finish fifth last time out over 1700m at Pornichet. Holds claims.
  10. MER LUNAIRE – Unraced filly by Sea The Moon out of Fair Daughter. Was a GNS 20,000 (Tattersalls 2021 October Yearling Sale Book 2) purchase. It will pay to keep an eye on the betting.

Summary: EVAMIS (8) looks the most solid option following two decent efforts in handicap company at Pau AW recently. Major appeal at this level. LALAAKEY (5) sets the standard on official ratings and will appreciate returning to maiden company while newcomer MER LUNAIRE (10) certainly would not have to be anything special to feature amongst the principles. LA MOMY (9) will likely be in the mix if building on a sound maiden fifth over 1700m at Pornichet AW last outing.

Selections

EVAMIS (8) – LALAAKEY (5) – MER LUNAIRE (10) – LA MOMY (9)

Race 4 – PRIX JOSEPH BIANCONE –  1600m MDN. Purse EUR €21,000.

  1. IMAGINE CHOP – Three-year-old colt who has been thereabouts at each appearance to date. Last time out finished fifth over 1600m at Pau All Weather. Big chance to break through.
  2. HIGHLAND ARCHER – Made a promising debut at Chantilly All Weather last start finishing runner-up over 1600m. Improver with plenty of appeal.
  3. WABAL – Form either side of a spell has been disappointing. Resumed last start and was beaten 4.5 lengths over 1600m at Pau All Weather. Expect he’ll find this too tough.
  4. DIAMOND – Was sent out on debut last start over 1900m at Nimes and finished fourth, beaten 4.5 lengths. Has a claiming apprentice aboard. Top chance to break through.
  5. ARTAIOS – First up since his debut three months ago when an ordinary ninth over 2000m at Toulouse. Hard to enthuse on that effort.
  6. BOLT OF THUNDER – Stepping out at this course for the first time. Last appeared when he finished fifth over 1700m at Pornichet on February 7. Cannot be ruled out.
  7. CHAPELIER – Has been out of the money recently including last start when ninth over 1400m at Mont-de-Marsan a week ago, beaten 14 lengths. Hard to fault if at his best.
  8. PIANINO – Going well this prep but did let favourite backers down last time when third over 1500m at Cagnes-sur-Mer. Great chance to break through.
  9. WELCH FUSILIER – Did little on debut when beaten 14 lengths into sixth over 1600m at Chantilly All Weather. Doubt he will trouble these.
  10. FAMOSO – Resumes today after filling a minor placing six times from eight starts in his maiden campaign. At the latest outing he finished second over 1600m at Saint-Cloud on November 17. Shows promise and worth following up.
  11. IERY – Fair effort last start, beaten 2.75 lengths into fifth over 1600m at Pau All Weather. In the mix.

Summary: FAMOSO (10) finished runner-up on six of his eight two-year-old outings including when narrowly denied over course and distance in November. Could find his consistency rewarded on reappearance with conditions to suit. There was promise from the supplemented DIAMOND (4) on debut when fourth at Nimes twelve days ago and he’s interesting if taking a step forward. PIANINO (8) needs respect following a solid 4.5L third in a 1500m handicap at Cagnes-sur-Mer. IMAGINE CHOP (1) has the form to go close if taking to turf for the first time.

Selections

FAMOSO (10) – DIAMOND (4) – PIANINO (8) – IMAGINE CHOP (1)

Race 5 – PRIX ROBERT MIGAUD –  2400m HCP CL4. Purse EUR €16,000.

  1. KINGS OF LEON – Has ability but the wins are rare. Has just two wins and five minor placings from 20 starts. Last start finished 16th over 2400m at Pau All Weather, beaten 25 lengths. Looking to others.
  2. VERTISMANN – Battled last start to finish sixth over 2100m at Pornichet, adding to a sequence of plain results. A better run is on the cards.
  3. DREAM WORD – Has not raced since finishing 0.7 lengths away in third over 2400m at Toulouse on December 2. Definite winning hope.
  4. WINMAN IN GREY – Finished midfield last start at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 2150m, 6 lengths from the winner. Tackles a longer journey this time. Sure to be thereabouts.
  5. TCHUCKY CHOP – Handy stayer who has been plain of late including last start when well held over 2150m at Cagnes-sur-Mer. This looks a nice assignment so expect sharp improvement.
  6. STONEBRIDGE – Broke back into the top-three last start when third at Mont-de-Marsan over 2450m, beaten 4.5 lengths. Leading contender.
  7. BAILEYS DIAMANT – Has had one run back from a break and was well held in ninth over 2450m at Mont-de-Marsan a week ago. No easier this time and not likely to threaten.
  8. CHICATCHI – Returns after a break of 19 months. Finished her last campaign impressively, scoring by half a length over 3000m at Mont-de-Marsan. Genuine contender.
  9. PEDRAZA LESCRIBAA – Now under the care of A Lartigau after mixing her form last season. Unlikely.
  10. YAZINA – Last appeared six-and-a-half months ago when she finished 10 lengths from the winner in 13th over 1900m at La Teste. Hasn’t shown enough.

Summary: STONEBRIDGE (6) makes plenty of appeal racing off the same mark as when third over 2450m (Class Four handicap) at Mont-de-Marsan a week ago. Notable contender. TCHUCKY CHOP (5) would hold decent claims if recapturing the form that saw him finish runner-up at Fontainebleau earlier in the season off 1.5kg higher. CHICATCHI (8) hasn’t been seen since winning a handicap at Mont-de-Marsan 594-days ago but is of interest having been supplemented for this. DREAM WORD (3) holds each-way claims.

Selections

STONEBRIDGE (6) – TCHUCKY CHOP (5) – CHICATCHI (8) – DREAM WORD (3)

Race 6 – PRIX LOUIS BURANI –  2400m HCP CL3. Purse EUR €20,000.

  1. SIR GEORGE – Resumes from a break of three months. Finished sixth at his most recent appearance over 2400m at Toulouse. Goes well first up. Looks a key runner.
  2. SHEHIYR – Broke through for a win last start when second up from a spell, scoring by a head over 2400m at Pau All Weather. Has scope for improvement. One of the chances.
  3. PANNETONE – Scored over 2500m at Deauville All Weather two back then missed the frame last time out over 2500m at Deauville All Weather. In the mix on best form.
  4. MAD RIVER – Course and distance winner whose latest effort was a 13th over 2400m at Pau All Weather. Has ability and shouldn’t be far away.
  5. PORTOFINO – Unwanted in the market when resuming last start at Pau All Weather over 2000m and finished seventh. That run was a bit plain so prefer him later on.
  6. CHIEF OF STALL – No support in betting first-up when tenth over 2150m at Cagnes-sur-Mer. Hard to get too confident until he shows a little more.
  7. MORANDI FIRST – After a good effort two back was a disappointing 12th last start over 2400m at Pau All Weather. Has ability and looks one of the chances.
  8. LIB DUBAWI – Returns after a break of three-and-a-half months. Finished his last campaign impressively, scoring by 3.5 lengths over 1900m at this track. Expect he is primed for a big first-up performance.
  9. THE MAGIC MAN – Has been out of the money recently including last time out when sixth over 2400m at Cagnes-sur-Mer All Weather five-and-a-half weeks ago, beaten 1.5 lengths. Holds claims.
  10. TRES DE TREBOL – Beaten 6 lengths into fifth when resuming last start over 2400m at Pau All Weather. Strips fitter and expected to figure prominently.
  11. JARDIN BLEU – Scored two starts back at Toulouse before finishing 2.5 lengths from the winner in fourth last time over 2150m at Cagnes-sur-Mer. In the mix.

Summary: LIB DUBAWI (8) looked good in winning a 1900m Class Four handicap by 4.5L here in November. Genuine contender up 2kg. THE MAGIC MAN (9) made the running before fading into sixth (beaten 1.5L) over this trip at Cagnes-sur-Mer last-time-out. Dangerous to dismiss if allowed to dictate matters out in-front. JARDIN BLEU (11) followed up a handicap success over this distance at Toulouse with a good fourth at Cagnes-sur-Mer in January. Respected back up in trip. First-time blinkers look an interesting addition for top-weight SIR GEORGE (1).

Selections

LIB DUBAWI (8) – THE MAGIC MAN (9) – JARDIN BLEU (11) – SIR GEORGE (1)

Race 7 – PRIX DE LA ROUTE DE SAINT-SIMON –  1900m HCP. Purse EUR €20,000.

  1. KAMINO – Resumes today. Last appeared at this track over 1900m when second three-and-a-half months ago. Has ability and worth following.
  2. MA CHALLA – Resumes today. Last appeared at this track over 1600m when fourth four-and-a-half months ago. Has upside and may pay to follow.
  3. ZOKOA – Bidding for a hat-trick of wins after scoring by 1.5 lengths over 2000m at Pau All Weather on January 27. In great form and should be right in the thick of things again.
  4. MORE – Lightly raced filly progressing well. Scored her maiden win last start by half a length over 2150m at Lyon-la-Soie. Sure to go close.
  5. LOVING STAR – Returned from a spell last start with a solid second, beaten 1.5 lengths at Pau All Weather over 2000m. Fitter and is a leading contender.
  6. COLOMBIANA – Promising filly who last start finished 10 lengths away in 11th over 2000m at Pau All Weather. Shapes up nicely.
  7. DSCHINGIS VOYAGE – Yet to fill a placing in four runs, most recently when 10 lengths back in fourth over 2100m at Pornichet. Finds a suitable race and can feature without surprising.
  8. BRAMESHOT – Building up to a maiden win. In the placings for the first time last start when third over 1900m at Deauville All Weather. Worth including on latest run.
  9. LANCEUR D’ALERTE – Finished a mile back last start when unwanted in betting over 2000m at Pau All Weather. Happy to risk.
  10. KOLPLET – Safely accounted for at each of his five runs to date. No threat when fifth over 2000m at Pau All Weather last time out. Looking elsewhere.
  11. CHOPA CHOPE – Hasn’t been far away in three career runs, the latest when 6 lengths away in fourth over 1650m at Machecoul. Not far away last time but a win doesn’t look likely.

Summary: MORE (4) shed the maiden tag at the fifth attempt when making all to score over 2150m at Lyon-la-Soie AW three weeks ago. Strong contender with more to come on handicap bow. KAMINO (1) finished a good second in a Class Two conditions event over course and distance in November. Player now handicapping. ZOKOA (3) beat LOVING STAR (5) by 1.5L in a Class Three handicap at Pau AW a month ago. The former will be thereabouts if replicating that level of form on turf and the latter holds claims back on this surface with a swing in the weights in her favour.

Selections

MORE (4) – KAMINO (1) – ZOKOA (3) – LOVING STAR (5)
