| Sharp ‘N’ Smart | Team Rogerson | One of the best three-year-olds in Australasia who was impressive winning the Herbie Dyke Stakes (G1) last start. Will be the hot favourite and clearly the one to beat. |
| Desert Lightning | Peter & Dawn Williams | Talented three-year-old who stormed home to win the Avondale Guineas over 2100m and whol will relish the rise to 2400m, appears to be a solid top three chance. |
| Dynastic | Mark Walker | Another improving three-year-old from the Mark Walker stable who scored an overdue win last against easier company. This is much tougher. |
| Waitak | Lance O’Sullivan & Andrew Scott | Narrowly beaten in the Avondale Guineas behind Desert Lightning and must be considered a top four contender again based on that effort. |
| Cruz Missile | Stephen Marsh | Didn’t measure up in the Herbie Dyke Stakes behind Sharp N Smart. Previous form was sound but a place chance at best. |
| Devildom | Lance O’Sullivan & Andrew Scott | Was not as effective on a good track last start in the Avondale Guineas but his previous effort on wet track was excellent finishing 2nd in the Waikato Guineas. Include in the chances. |
| Opawa Jack | Chrissy Bambry | Has been racing against easier horses and was 3rd last start at Taranaki Ri. This is much harder. |
| Mark Twain | Roger James & Robert Wellwood | Winner of two of his four career starts but against much inferior opposition. He does give the impression he will stay all day and the rise in distance will suit. |
| Savoir Faire | Mark Walker | Finished powerfully in the Waikato Guineas for 3rd place when he produced one of the better runs of the race. He could sneak a place on a rain affected track. |
| Texas | Nicholas Bishara | Bounced back to the winner’s list last start on turf after failing on the synthetic track two starts ago. Big rise in class here. |
| Rockburn | John Bary | Did not handle the heavy track and failed badly at Matamata last start and this appears too hard. |
| Channel Surfer | Graham Richardson & Rogan Norvall | Failed with blinkers on the first time in the Avondale Guineas when checking in 8th place. Hard to recommend at this level. |
| Warsaw | Chris Gibbs | Was held up at a critical stage in the straight in the Avondale Guineas and came through on the rail late for a fast closing third place. With clear running he may have finished closer. |
| Jaffira | Lance O’Sullivan & Andrew Scott | Pulled hard in the race and struck trouble in the Avondale Guineas when 10th and this appears too tough. |
| Andalus | Stephen Marsh | Winner two starts ago and was then not disgraced in the Avondale Guineas when he was slowly away and made ground late. Looks a value runner. |
| Full Of Sincerity | Andrew Forsman | Ridden perfectly and given every chance in the Avondale Guineas when finishing 4th to Desert Lightning. Hard to see him turning the tables. |
| Dimaggio | Tony Pike | Travelled on the speed outside the leader in the Avondale Guineas and had his chance in the straight but just battled away for 5th place. |
| Savabourbon | Stephen Marsh | Enjoyed a nice run in transit before bursting through late and winning at Pukekohe Park over 2100m. Extra journey will suit. |
Selections: 1. Sharp ‘N’ Smart , 2. Desert Lightning, 4. Waitak, 13. Warsaw
