Race Preview

Race 1 – PRIX DANIEL VERGEZ –  2000m CL2. Purse EUR €22,000.

  1. BLAS – Good effort last start to win his maiden over 2000m at Cagnes-sur-Mer All Weather at just his second appearance by a long neck. Can go on with it.
  2. BACK TO BLACK – Was beaten just a nose when second on his latest appearance at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 2150m. Expected to feature.
  3. VALIDATOS – Unraced colt by Recoletos out of Validator. Was a EUR € 32,000 (Arqana 2022 Summer Sale) purchase. Keep safe.
  4. LE TROPIC – Won two starts back at Cagnes-sur-Mer All Weather then finished third last time out over 1900m at Chantilly All Weather. Place.
  5. L’IMPREVUE – Has not raced since finishing 6L away in third over 1600m at Pau All Weather on December 31. May need more time.

Summary: There should be further progress to come from BLAS (1) who showed a good attitude when battling on for a narrow maiden win at Cagnes-sur-Mer AW (2000m). Major chance. Cagnes-sur-Mer turf maiden scorer BACK TO BLACK (2) sets the standard on ratings and can go close following a good second in this class at the same venue recently. L’IMPREVUE (5) is considered on the back of a sound third in a Class Two conditions event over 1600m at Pau AW. In the mix. Newcomer VALIDATOS (3) is worth a glance in the market.

Selections

BLAS (1) – BACK TO BLACK (2) – L’IMPREVUE (5) – VALIDATOS (3)

Race 2 – PRIX DE L’ESSOR –  1700m CLM. Purse EUR €12,000.

  1. ROI DE FLANDRE – Recorded his maiden success three back but has missed the placings since including when fifth over 1600m at Cagnes-sur-Mer All Weather. Finds a nice race and can turn things around.
  2. COLBY CHOP – Finished third first-up at Cagnes-sur-Mer then couldn’t repeat when sixth over 1500m. Sure to be thereabouts.
  3. ONDINE – Has been out of the placings in recent runs. Last start finished 3.5L from the winner in seventh over 1500m at Marseille Vivaux. Place.
  4. PAQUES TOT – Drops in distance from the latest outing when sixth over 2000m at Marseille Vivaux. Going well and should be prominent again.
  5. ZAVADREAM – Back sharply in trip last time and didn’t feature when seventh over 1300m at Cagnes-sur-Mer All Weather. Doubt she will offer up too much of a challenge to the top few.
  6. BECAUSE THE NIGHT – Finished 9L from the winner in ninth last start over 2150m at Lyon-la-Soie. Looks tested again.

Summary: ROI DE FLANDRE (1) won a 1600m maiden on the AW at Cagnes-sur-Mer three starts ago and produced a fifth in a handicap over the same course and distance latest. Leading hope on the figures dropping to claiming level. PAQUES TOT (4) could provide the chief threat following a sound claiming sixth over 2000m at Marseille-Vivaux AW. Dangerous to dismiss but has something to find with the selections on official ratings. COLBY CHOP (2) is considered after a fair sixth in maiden company over 1500m at Cagnes-sur-Mer while ZAVADREAM (5) heads the remainder.

Selections

ROI DE FLANDRE (1) – PAQUES TOT (4) – COLBY CHOP (2) – ZAVADREAM (5)

Race 3 – PRIX DE LA BARBEN –  2600m CL4 QUALIF HCP. Purse EUR €16,000.

  1. MONT STEELE – Stepping out at this course for the first time. Last appeared when he finished third over 2000m at Marseille Vivaux on February 21. Winning hope.
  2. INTO FAITH – Unplaced on all three runs since a break. Place if reverting to best form.
  3. MY LENNY – Well held on the last couple starts. Place on best form.
  4. MISS CAYSSIE – Hasn’t done much in recent times. Looking to others.
  5. KARKHOV – Started this campaign in poor form. Needs to do more.
  6. POUSSY CAT – Has only recorded one win and one minor placing from eight career runs. Well held last time when thirteenth over 2500m at Deauville All Weather. Well held last time and others preferred.
  7. KALINQA – Stepping up in trip after finishing fourth over 2400m at Pau All Weather last time out. Finds a nice race this time and is right in contention.

Summary: KALINQA (7) finished a close up fourth in a Class Three handicap over 2400m at Pau AW three weeks ago. Top hope having been supplemented. MONT STEELE (1) makes appeal following a solid third in a 2000m Class Four claiming handicap at Marseille-Vivaux AW. Expected to measure up once more. The drop from a Class Two handicap should aid the chances of MY LENNY (3) while similar comments apply to INTO FAITH (2) who won back-to-back Class Four qualifying handicaps on turf last year.

Selections

KALINQA (7) – MONT STEELE (1) – MY LENNY (3) – INTO FAITH (2)

Race 4 – PRIX DE BEAUCAIRE –  2000m CLM CL4 HCP. Purse EUR €12,000.

  1. INTERIEUR – Won three times earlier on in his prep. Can run a better race this time.
  2. ALROMY – Has failed to fill a placing on her last few runs including a fifth over 2000m at Marseille Vivaux. Should go well.
  3. EDITED – Average effort last start when tenth over 2000m at Cagnes-sur-Mer All Weather. Will need to improve sharply.
  4. MONI – Won two starts back at Marseille Vivaux then finished second last time out over 2000m. Tough to beat on best form.
  5. MUSIC IS HER NAME – Drops in distance from the latest effort when sixth over 2500m at Deauville All Weather. Worth following up.
  6. SPORT COUPE – Has been safely held on his last few runs. Unreliable and needs to do more.
  7. O’MONERIE – Been out of the placings on her last few runs. Could place if bouncing back.
  8. SAYANN – Didn’t inspire again last start. Struggling to make an impact and happy to risk again.
  9. ASPEN – Didn’t fire last time when fifth over 2500m at Cagnes-sur-Mer. Can return to form.
  10. RIMBAULT – Form in recent times has been moderate. Unlikely to threaten.

Summary: MONI (4) backed up a 2000m Class Four claiming handicap win at Marseille-Vivaux AW with a good second over the same track and trip last-time-out. Arrives in excellent form and looks the one to side with returning to turf. ASPEN (9) is two from three at this venue and went down narrowly in a 2150m Class Three claiming handicap at Cagnes-sur-Mer recently. Obvious appeal. It would be tough to discount INTERIEUR (1) after a good fourth in a similar event on the AW at Cagnes-sur-Mer nineteen days ago. One to note as a four-time scorer over this trip. ALROMY (2) holds each-way claims.

Selections

MONI (4) – ASPEN (9) – INTERIEUR (1) – ALROMY (2)
