Hong Kong racing continues at Sha Tin on Saturday (11 March) for a 10-race turf fixture.
Promising three-year-old LASER VICTORY can score two wins on end when he returns to Sha Tin in the Class 4 1200m Handicap on Saturday.
The Jamie Richards-trained youngster made his race track debut in mid-February off the back of a series of impressive barrier trials. Though drawn wide in barrier 12 on his first career start at this track and distance, jockey Zac Purton took luck out of the equation by utilizing his mount’s brilliant gate speed and had control of the race on the lead in the first 200m. LASER VICTORY never looked in doubt thereafter, cruising away under minimal urging to score decisively by 1.25 lengths.
LASER VICTORY has since turned in a good trial to suggest he’s come on leaps and bounds from his first-up assignment. Richards has found moderate Class 4 contest for his up-and-comer where he is the clear stand out, and he’ll be proving very hard to beat again.
Elsewhere, trainer John Size’s handy four-year-old GOLDEN EXPRESS finds a suitable race to shed his maiden tag in when he contests the Class 3 1200m Handicap in the final race of the card.
GOLDEN EXPRESS is first-up off a 55-day break and has raced three times locally for two placings after arriving a one-from-one winner in Australia. First-up in late November, GOLDEN EXPRESS closed off strongly into second to promising type Victor The Winner, before going on lead second-up over 1400m and finish one-length into third behind Classic Cup winner and one of next week’s Derby favourites, Super Sunny Sing.
The last time GOLDEN EXPRESS raced, he drew wide and was steadied early in a slowly-run race, still coming home strongly into fifth and beaten 0.75 lengths. He has since turned in an impressive trial win and draws favourably low in barrier 2, while his main danger, DRAGON’S LUCK, may need an ounce more of luck stepping away from barrier 11.
