Perak Racing Preview By Mark Lydeamore For 11 March

Two divisions of the Class 4 will headline the six race card at Perak Turf Club this Saturday with numerous chances emanating from both events.

The first division over the 1200m journey (Race 5) contains a field of nine with all bar one having tasted success at Class 4 level previously. HARVEYWALLBANGER (5) has won five times in this grade and appears well suited to bounce back over his favorite trip. The eight year old took out a Class 5 race over 1200m in mid-January and wasn’t disgraced in finishing 4th on the upgrade after leading last start in KL. WINNING HOBBY (9) closed off well when resuming from an eight month spell over 1200m in Penang. Performing for the first time in the country, the seven year old was unwanted in the market and belied the betting drift with a fast finishing 2nd on February 19 and looks a genuine contender second up. QASAR (3) has posted two unplaced efforts so far this year since winning a Class 4 contest in Penang in December and reserves his best if the track is on the wet side. D’GREAT DUCHESS (2) has improved rapidly in recent months posting four victories in the past six months and she can bounce back from her last start failure as she drops to a more suitable distance. UNDER OATH (7) is resuming and has the capacity to overcome the wide draw while MACARTHUR (1), dropping back to the ‘B’ division is a value play for the trifecta.

The other division of the Class 4 over 1400m (Race 6) appears to be a stronger lineup where MANDRAKE (1) has a chance of rebounding back to winning form on the downgrade. Following three successive placings against Class 3 company, MANDRAKE (1) draws well and will be searching for his first win since scoring at his local debut here back in November last year. The Buffalo Stable are represented by two genuine contenders in PERFECT (2) and INTREPID (8). PERFECT (2), with 3 wins and 4 placings from 7 Malaysian starts, is an ultra consistent type with a good record over the 1400m. INTREPID (8) was heavily supported first up in KL and will strip fitter from that performance a fortnight ago. The mare also has big weight advantage on her rivals and a win would not surprise. CAVALLA COURT (7) is yet to win at Class 4 but was placed in this grade last start and has been freshened up since.
