Hong Kong racing continues at Sha Tin on Sunday (2 April) for a usual 10-race card.
Promising three-year-old colt CHIU CHOW SPIRIT can land his first win in Hong Kong for trainer Benno Yung when he contests the Class 3 1400m Handicap (race 8).
CHIU CHOW SPIRIT arrived locally as a two-time winner and one-time runner-up from five starts in Australia, where he raced under the name Twin Stars.
Debuting in mid-February, CHIU CHOW SPIRIT ran home strongly into fifth, beaten 2.75 lengths to Beauty Eternal, before going on to check home second-place on his second-up run.
Getting a little too far back in the run while the eventual winner had a few lengths on CHIU CHOW SPIRIT in the early and middle stages, he was the best of the rest as he accounted for the rest of the field easily.
Elsewhere, five-year-old gelding EQUILIBRIUM TURBO can score an overdue win for trainer Richard Gibson in the Class 4 1000m Handicap (race 4).
EQUILIBRIUM TURBO is on a competitive rating after sliding down into Class 4 from Class 3 and has been a big improver since switching to this track and distance at his two most recent starts.
On each occasion, he has been getting back in the run but charging home late to finish runner-up and third place respectively, suggesting a win is right around the corner.
From an ideal barrier 14 for the straight course, and with Zac Purton taking over the reins, EQUILIBRIUM TURBO should be getting all the favours to land his first Hong Kong win.
