Kenilworth Preview – 26 April

South Africa Horse Racing Previews: KENILWORTH@2023.04.26

Kenilworth, 26.04.2023, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R125.000, 12:30GMT+2

Race Summary: MUSICAL ARTS caught the eye on debut when finishing ahead of more-experienced rival STRATA and ought to confirm that form with natural improvement. NILE THE BOSS has the form and experience to be competitive too. BORN READY and FUTURE STAR make most appeal of the newcomers and must be respected on debut – the betting exchanges should provide more clues.

Selections:

#3 Musical Arts, #4 Strata, #5 Nile The Boss, #10 Born Ready

Kenilworth, 26.04.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R125.000, 13:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Fascinating. FLYING V showed improvement in her second start and could get into the picture if making further progress. QUICK TRIP, however, sets the standard after two encouraging runs and that experience should stand her in good stead. There are several newcomers to take note of, with well-related BALTIC SECRET, BEACH BOMB and AMONG THE CLOUDS (before any betting clues) of particular interest as they’re related to Grade 1 winners. ROYAL LYTHAM and BAVARIAN BEAUTY are others to consider. Follow the market moves.

Selections:

#11 Quick Trip, #3 Baltic Secret, #10 Among The Clouds, #8 Beach Bomb

Kenilworth, 26.04.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R125.000, 13:40GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky start to the Pick 6 but including the raced runners will see you through. Of the six to have run, CAPTAIN ARROW and SILVER CROWN have the best form. BOHEMIAN GROVE has disappointed after a promising debut but could redeem himself back over 1000m, while SPEED RACER ought to have come on from his debut so worth including. WHISKEY BRAVO, ALWAYS FREE and UNDERWORLD are worth a market check on debut, along with well-related GRAVITY who could prove the pick of the newcomers.

Selections:

#7 Captain Arrow, #5 Silver Crown, #13 Gravity, #3 Whiskey Bravo

Kenilworth, 26.04.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R150.000, 14:20GMT+2

Race Summary: Good race. NAVY STRENGTH and MASTER REDOUTE shared 4th when finishing behind HAN SOLO over 1800m last month. There is little to choose between them on these terms. SOMERSET MAUGHAM was making his comeback when staying on to finish behind those rivals last time so could represent the value in the race with improved fitness on his side. Stablemate SILVER DARLING is favourably treated by the conditions but has a prior engagement – must be included if taking her place here.

Selections:

#4 Somerset Maugham, #2 Han Solo, #5 Silver Darling, #6 Master Redoute

Kenilworth, 26.04.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R125.000, 14:55GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. PACIFIC GREEN and WHO DO YOU LOVE ran in stronger races last time and should fare better in this grade. WHAT A STATE beat ALLENDE on similar terms in a recent meeting but the latter was drawn wide and left too much to do so could turn the tables here. BODY ELECTRIC is closely matched on that form so could also get into the picture. HUNTING TRIP bounced back to winning ways last time and ought to be competitive despite a 4-point penalty. Good race!

Selections:

#3 Who Do You Love, #1 Pacific Green, #6 Hunting Trip, #7 Allende

Kenilworth, 26.04.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R80.000, 15:35GMT+2

Race Summary: LIKETHECLAPPERS was game in defeat when outrun into second having led for much of the way over this course and distance last time, and should confirm his superiority over PAPER TRAIL, CAPTIVE MOON and VERONIQUE. The latter’s stable companion FLY TO RIO is dangerous off a lower mark and could get into the picture under Grant van Niekerk. NAUSHON is one to note on his return from a layoff.

Selections:

#7 Liketheclappers, #8 Captive Moon, #4 Paper Trail, #5 Fly To Rio

Kenilworth, 26.04.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R110.000, 16:10GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. GIMME’S LADDIE wasn’t winning out of turn when last seen and is open to improvement on his return from a rest and gelding. DANCE VARIETY has come down in the ratings after losing his form in stronger races, so should fare better. BENJAMIN caught the eye last time in a higher grade and should be competitive off the same mark. SWIFT ACTION is in good form and must be included too. WINTER PEARL is closely matched with that rival and refitted with blinkers, so not discounted either.

Selections:

#5 Dance Variety, #1 Gimme’s Laddie, #10 Benjamin, #2 Swift Action

Kenilworth, 26.04.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R125.000, 16:45GMT+2

Race Summary: THE TINKERMAN returns from a spell out after a disappointing last run but could have a say on his earlier form. BEERENBERG and NORTHERN SONG are closely matched on the form of a recent meeting and the latter should strip fitter, though prefers further. VELDSKOEN turned the tables on WYAG from a wide draw last time and could confirm. Riding arrangements, however, suggest recently gelded stablemate CHAMPION WARRIOR could be the pick of the Crawford runners. TRANSACT is consistent and most effective over this track and trip so likely to be involved. STREET OUTLAW is another to consider. Wide open!

Selections:

#9 Transact, #2 Beerenberg, #4 Wyag, #5 Veldskoen

Best Win: #7 LIKETHECLAPPERS

Best Value Bet: #4 SOMERSET MAUGHAM

Best Longshot: #4 SOMERSET MAUGHAM
