FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY, STING LIKE A BEE
Consistent four-year-old FLOATING is poised to score his first win of 2023 when he takes on the $150,000 Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1500m at Rosehill Racecourse in Australia this Saturday.
FLOATING has won twice and placed five times in a total of 11 starts so far, and he is now third-up into his current preparation after finishing second and third on his first two runs. In his last start, he finished third In a competitive race, finishing strongly despite standing too much ground on the eventual winner and runner-up at the top of the straight. He finished just 1.5 lengths astern.
This week, the step up to 1500m on his third-up run should be a huge positive for FLOATING, especially given his ideal barrier 2 position. With champion jockey James McDonald remaining in the saddle, who was aboard the last time he tasted success in November, a win for FLOATING seems highly likely.
FOLLOW MAHER, EUSTACE’S FILLY
On Saturday at Newcastle Racecourse in Australia, the improved three-year-old filly MATRONYMIC is expected to secure consecutive victories by winning the $40,000 Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1200m.
MATRONYMIC will be competing in just her seventh race after a convincing maiden success for trainers Ciaron Maher & David Eustace. Previously, she was trained by Brett Cavanough. In her last race on 14 April, MATRONYMIC led from the front and won with ease, finishing almost four lengths ahead of her closest competitor over the same distance.
With her recent success, MATRONYMIC has proven that she has the potential to continue her winning streak and is likely to be the one to beat again.
SUPER SMINK IN EXCELLENT FORM
Promising two-year-old filly SUPER SMINK is primed to claim the $200,000 Group 3 W.A Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1400m at Ascot racecourse this Saturday.
SUPER SMINK boasts an impressive record of two wins and two placings from four starts thus far. The daughter of Super One was most impressive last start when winning the G2 Karrakatta Plate in emphatic fashion. Travelling off the speed that day, the Daniel Morton-trained filly showed a devastating turn of foot to overhaul her rivals effortlessly, scoring by two lengths over 1200m.
Based on her racing pattern, the rise in distance should suit SUPER SMINK even better this week and she can prove hard to hold out with top jockey Chris Parnham remaining in the saddle.
