Giga to Kick clear in the 10,000
Arguably Australia’s best sprinter, highly talented three-year-old GIGA KICK is poised for back-to-back Group 1 successes when he lines up in Saturday’s $1.5 million G1 Doomben 10,0000 over 1200m.
GIGA KICK went undefeated in his first five career starts in what was a rapid rise in success, going from winning his first start in a $35k Maiden at Sale in February 2022 to claiming the world’s richest race on turf, the $15 million The Everest, at just start number five. Life-changing for all involved, GIGA KICK has been outstanding this year, checking in a solid third first-up in the G2 Challenge Stakes (1000m), runner-up in the G1 T J Smith Stakes (1200m) before claiming his first Group 1 prize last start in the G1 All Aged Stakes (1400m).
Just a three-year-old with nine starts for six wins and two placings, GIGA KICK could is the most exciting horse going around Down Under currently. The betting suggests it should be a walk in the park for talented youngster on Saturday, with Godolphin’s AFT CABIN expecting to be the one to test his mettle.
Gannicus battle-ready
Three-year-old gelding LORD GANNICUS is well placed to score a first-up win resuming in the $60,000 Special Conditions Handicap over 1300m from Belmont, Australia on Saturday.
LORD GANNICUS is a three-time winner from nine start so far, with a further two second placings to his name. After stringing together two wins on end in October last year, he went on to contest a few harder races, including the G2 WA Guineas, but didn’t measure up.
Rested since early December, LORD GANNICUS resumes off one public trial which he won nicely. He’ll be far better suited in this week’s company and William Pike booked to ride suggests he’s there to win.
Currie’s Candy to delight
The Mark Currie-trained filly CANDY CLOUDS is primed to land her first career win this Saturday when she lines up in the $24,500 Maiden race over 1625m at Toowoomba racecourse, Australia.
CANDY CLOUDS has been placed twice from three starts to date and the only time that she missed the frame was in a BM62 race two starts ago. At her latest outing, the daughter of Sooboog settled just off the speed and stuck on well to finish a meritorious third over 1350m at Ipswich despite jumping from a wide draw.
This week, CANDY CLOUDS strikes a highly winnable race, where she stands out as the only form choice, and from a much better draw, she can prove hard to beat for jockey Leeanne McCoy.
