21 May Selangor Racing Preview by Mark Lydeamore

The inner track (Track No 2) will be in operation for the ten race card at Selangor Turf Club on Sunday featuring the 1075m Korea Racing Authority Trophy (Race 6).

Trainer Richard Lines enjoyed a day out with 5 winners last Sunday and will saddle five of the eight runners horses in the feature. One of those is MAGIC CAPTAIN (1), who took a while to finally break his Malaysian duck at Ipoh recently and wasn’t disgraced on the upgrade when finishing runner up over 1100m here a fortnight ago. Stable mate SUPER HERO (5) has returned to form scoring over 1100m before his fast finishing 2nd in Penang over the same trip. Must be rated a major chance returning to home turf. GRAND CHOICE (4) looked a shade disappointing last start but he was placed 2nd behind progressive performer Golden Champ prior to that which keeps him under notice. D’GREAT JOURNEY (3) led and weakened over 1200m and may be suited dropping back in distance.

Brazilian jockey, Bernardo Pinheiro returns to KL with a book of five rides and his best chance may emanate from the 1175m Open Maiden (Race 5) where former Australian galloper ROCKET HORSE (5) will start as likely favourite. The 3yo was placed twice in Australia prior to debuting for the AB Abdullah stable here two weeks ago where he ran a credible 2nd over 1200m. JAMES BOND (2) is one of the more experienced runners in the field and has been specked in the market on a few occasions. He closed off well when beaten a neck into 3rd placing at Penang on April 30. Stable mate LEGEND NINETY TWO (3) has placed 3 from 15 and his recent form has tapered off to some degree but improvement can be expected. BIG MONKEY (8) was heavily supported on debut in Penang but never recovered after receiving an early check in the run. The 3yo did beat high grade galloper Ahtims Klis in a trial last month so obviously the horse does have potential. Watch the markets on this gelding.

RULE THE WORLD (6) finally gets his chance to break through in the 1775m Stayer Stakes B (Race 10). The 7yo appears well handicapped under race conditions and is looking for this journey after narrow defeats over the mile recently. MAINSTREAM (9) broke through at start 19 and immediately followed up with an 1800m Class 5 victory. This a slight step in grade but he is bred to stay, as evidenced by his two wins and the hat trick is not out of the question. SMART RACER (1) is coming off moderate form lines but he will go around as the highest rated galloper in the staying contest. WHY NOT (5) has not won for almost a year but has descended back to a winnable rating and is proven at the trip.
