Singapore Stewards’ Press Release
SINGAPORE MAY MEETING 2023
SATURDAY, 20 MAY 2023
RACE 5 [TF0539]
The Inquiry into the riding of SUN PALACE (R Iskandar) in Race 5 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Saturday, 20 May 2023 was concluded on Monday, 22 May 2023.
After taking evidence from Jockey Iskandar (pictured) and Trainer D Koh, the Trainer of SUN PALACE, Jockey Iskandar was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that passing the 400m until approaching the 200m, he did fail to take advantage of a clear run directly in front of him between JUST BECAUSE (M Kellady) and COUNTRY BOSS (WH Kok), which was available to him at all times.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge, his disciplinary record, personal circumstances, precedent penalties and submissions from Jockey Iskandar that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meeting on Saturday, 27 May 2023.
In all the circumstances, Jockey Iskandar’s Licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two months from Sunday, 28 May 2023 until Thursday, 27 July 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
RACE 6 [TF0540]
The Inquiry into the riding of LEGACY FORTUNE (App R Azhar) in Race 6 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Saturday, 20 May 2023 was concluded on Monday, 22 May 2023.
After taking evidence from App Azhar, the rider of LEGACY FORTUNE, and his Master, Trainer T Fitzsimmons, App Azhar pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that after restraining his mount on jumping to take up a rearward position in accordance with the gelding’s racing pattern:
- he did unnecessarily continue to restrain his mount from the 1500m until approaching the 1100m, resulting in LEGACY FORTUNE losing contact with the main body of the field; and
- from the 1000m until the 500m, he did fail to attempt to improve and take up a position behind KHAO MANEE (K A’Isisuhairi) when that was available to him.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge, guilty plea, his disciplinary record, personal circumstances and precedent penalties.
In all the circumstances, App Azhar’s Licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two months from Monday, 22 May 2023 until Friday, 21 July 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
