Race Preview

R1 – PRIX DE SAINT-GERMAIN-EN-LAYE – 900m (a4 1/2f) – TURF – Claiming – Flat – EUR € 24.000

1. BAD BOY – Has solid form references and greater experience, which will stand him in good
stead. One to beat
2. PRINCE SHALAA – Open to improvement after a modest introduction (7th) but is best watched
for now. For another day
3. BOTTOMS UP – Improved on her debut 7th to finish 4th at her next start and is capable of
getting into the picture with further progress
4. SALALAH – Finished 5th of five on debut and would have gained plenty from that experience.
Has claims eased in grade
5. GOGOGADGET – Showed promise in both starts before a disappointing last outing. Capable of
better
6. BAWE ISLAND – Improving with each start and was demoted to 2nd after crossing the line first
in her line start. Will be a factor

Summary : BAD BOY (1) is the most experienced of these runners and boasts solid form
references to boot, so is hard to oppose. Filly BAWE ISLAND (6) confirmed recent improvement
when 2nd in a similar field last time and is likely to pose a threat with further progress on the
cards. GOGOGADGET (5) disappointed recently but is capable of better and could stake a claim
on his earlier form. SALALAH (4) and BOTTOMS UP (3) complete the shortlist.

SELECTIONS
BAD BOY (1) – BAWE ISLAND (6) – GOGOGADGET (5) – SALALAH (4)

R2 – PRIX PIRETTE – 1200m (a6f) – TURF – Condition Race – Class 2 – Flat – EUR € 34.000

1. BEAUVATIER – Well-bred colt who impressed when making a winning debut. Will pay to follow
his progress
2. INTELLECT – Confirmed the promise of his debut when opening his account next time out.
Improvement expected
3. EVERSTAR – Improved with the benefit of experience to score at the second attempt. Should
have more to offer
4. RAMATUELLE – Well-regarded filly who justified her reputation when winning on debut. The
main threat to BEAUVATIER (1)
5. PICOLA – Showed signs of improvement when finishing 3rd last time but will need build on that
to have a say here

Summary : A potential match-race awaits, as debut winners BEAUVATIER (1) and
RAMATUELLE (4) are both expected to take a step forward with the benefit of that experience.
INTELLECT (2) and EVERSTAR (3) confirmed the promise of their debuts by winning next time
out and are likely to join the fight for victory. Good race!

SELECTIONS
BEAUVATIER (1) – RAMATUELLE (4) – INTELLECT (2) – EVERSTAR (3)

R3 – PRIX ASTRONOMIE – 2100m (a1 5/16m) – TURF – Condition Race – Class 1 – Flat – EUR € 35.000

1. AMBOISE – Well-bred filly who improved to open her account recently over 2000m at
ParisLongchamp. More to come
2. ZEEYARA – Made a winning debut at Chantilly and is likely to have improved since so must be
respected. Keep safe
3. NASSANDRES – Finished well to win on debut at Angers and would have gained from that
experience. Not taken lightly
4. SOLAIRE – Has the benefit of experience and did show improvement last time but is unlikely to
trouble the principals
5. SUNBURST – Made a winning comeback at Chantilly in March, ahead of AMBOISE (1). Has
leading claims on that form

Summary : A competitive Class 1 event in which well-bred AMBOISE (1) will be of particular
interest after winning her maiden recently with flying colours. SUNBURST (5) has already finished
ahead of the selection this year, at Chantilly in March, so is likely to pose a serious threat. Debut
winners ZEEYARA (2) and NASSANDRES (3) could be anything and are dangerous to dismiss.

SELECTIONS
AMBOISE (1) – SUNBURST (5) – ZEEYARA (2) – NASSANDRES (3)

R4 – GRAND HANDICAP DE SAINT-CLOUD – 1400m (a7f) – TURF – Handicap – Class 1 – Flat – EUR € 70.000

1. TITANIUM – Last-start winner who has maintained his consistency from Day 1. Has a few
questions to answer on unfavorable ground but can’t be ruled out
2. AXDAVALI – Consistent at a good level since his youth and will also appreciate the return to
1400m, so must be respected. Obvious inclusion
3. LOLIWOOD – Unreliable sort but is quite capable of getting a look in here judged on her best
form. Outsider
4. CLEVER CANDY – Up 4kg for winning a Listed race at Cologne but is not incapable of
acquitting herself competitively at this level. Running well, has claims
5. DEEP HOPE – In good form recently but has gone up the weights as a result and is also drawn
wide in No 16. His task looks complicated
6. HOLLYHOCK – Ran well in his first outing at this level but has yet to confirm that form since.
Dominated in a lower grade and his comeback, so others are preferred
7. ANTHARIS – Proved himself in this category last year and has been lowered 1kg after a muchneeded comeback outing. Capable of better and can play a role here
8. AMEDRAS – A regular at this level and bounced back to form when 2nd last time out. Would
prefer it soft but cannot be discounted. For lovers of outsiders
9. SIMPLY STRIKING – Did not have a smooth passage when finishing unplaced last time but
would have a chance here of his earlier form. Keep safe
10. OZAN – Has won at this level but most effective on the fibresand. Not disgraced when
finishing 6th on the turf last time and is seldom far off the mark. Dark horse
11. LANAKEN – Continues to run well, finishing 2nd in both starts this year including a Quinté+
last time so need only overcome a wide draw to have a say again
12. VALMER MAGIC – Somewhat disappointing last year after a promising start to his career but
did make an encouraging comeback after gelding and could have more to offer. Include
13. MONARCHIC – Took a while to win but has taken his game to another level since. Eyecatching 5th in his last start and has legitimate claims on that form
14. CIRANO – Undeniably capable but has gone off the boil recently and needs to reaffirm, so is
best watched for now
15. MAGIC VATI – A specialist on the PSF but maintained his form and consistency when
returned to the turf last time. Dangerous to dismiss
16. ZEROSTRESS – Placed 3rd and 4th in two starts at this level. Seldom finishes far off but
things may get complicated from his tricky starting stall
17. FRENCH CONTE – A strong finisher who is probably too high in the weights/ratings to have
winning claims at this level. Place chance only

Summary : VALMER MAGIC (12) did not go unnoticed when finishing 7th last time in his first
start as a gelding and is likely to have tightened up with the benefit of that pleasing comeback
run, so is good value to turn the tables on MONARCHIC (13) who ran on well to finish ahead of
the selection on that occasion. Successful in this grade last year, ANTHARIS (7) is back in a
handicap dropped 1kg, so should be competitive and in the firing line. SIMPLY STRIKING (9),
unlucky when finishing unplaced last time, and consistent AXDAVALI (2), on handicap debut,
have the credentials to play leading roles too. LANAKEN (11), runner-up in consecutive starts
recently, has to contend with a wide No 15 gate but is also capable of staking a claim. MAGIC
VATI (15) and OZAN (10) complete the shortlist.

SELECTIONS
VALMER MAGIC (12) – MONARCHIC (13) – ANTHARIS (7) – SIMPLY STRIKING (9)

R5 – PRIX CORRIDA – 2100m (a1 5/16m) – TURF – Group 2 – Group – Flat – EUR € 130.000

1. BAIYKARA – Consistent for the most part but no more than a place chance in this
grade/company. Outsider
2. NASHWA – Dual Group I winner with consistent form at the highest level. Makes plenty appeal
back from a break
3. INDIA – Shone on her comeback at ParisLongchamp, winning the Group III Prix Allez France,
and should be competitive here. Keep safe
4. ABOVE THE CURVE – Won the Group I Prix Saint-Alary last year and would’ve tightened up
after a comeback run (7th). Chief threat
5. MQSE DE SEVIGNE – Beaten by MQSE DE SEVIGNE (5) when 2nd on her comeback in the
Prix Allez France. Can get into the picture
6. ROMAGNA MIA – Has yet to spark in 2 comeback runs this year so is hard to make case for
here. Best watched for now

Summary : An exciting renewal of the Prix Corrida featuring highly rated NASHWA (2), last
year’s winner of the Prix de Diane (Gr.I) She has been absent since finishing 4th in the Breeders
Cup Filly And Mare Turf but it should pay to follow her progress back from a break. Last year’s
winner of the Prix Saint-Alary (Gr.I), ABOVE THE CURVE (4) has solid credentials of her own, so
is her main rival for victory. INDIA (3) won her reappearance beating MQSE DE SEVIGNE (5)
and could confirm that superiority.

SELECTIONS
NASHWA (2) – ABOVE THE CURVE (4) – INDIA (3) – MQSE DE SEVIGNE (5)

R6 – PRIX CALANDRIA – 1400m (a7f) – TURF – Condition Race – Maiden – Flat – EUR € 27.000

1. LIWA OASIS – Made a good comeback when 3rd at Saint-Cloud recently and should be
involved here with progress expected
2. ASHWARI – Showed little on debut and is probably best watched until showing improvement.
Others preferred
3. NOUR AYA – Got off to a good start when finishing 4th in the Prix Luth Enchantée and could
get into the picture here on that from
4. BUTTE ROUGE – Unplaced in both outings but did show signs of improvement last time.
Needs to build on that to feature here
5. PIERREFITTE – Finished 3rd behind PERCUSSION (7) when making her debut at this track.
Should have more to come
6. NIGHTCALL – Has done nothing noteworthy to this point so can be easily ruled out here.
Others make more appeal
7. PERCUSSION – Narrowly beaten when 2nd in the benchmark at this course earlier this month.
Can have a say here
8. TRIESTE – Showed promise when 3rd on debut but failed to confirm that when only 9th last
time. Could redeem herself
9. DARK ZEL – Has been struggling for form and consistency recently so unlikely to trouble the
judge. Needs to reaffirm
10. SUNSHINEFLED – Showed signs of improvement last time and could get a look in here if
confirming. Place chance
11. LEVANTE BREEZE – Left a favorable impression when finishing 6th on debut and would
have gained plenty from that experience. One to note
12. MONTJICA – Returned after a long absence to finish 3rd on her reappearance and would’ve
tightened up since. Leading claims
13. EUBOA – Markus Münch-trained Soldier Hollow debutante who benefits from Marie Velon’s
1,5kg allowance

Summary : LIWA OASIS (1) caught the eye in a back-to-school race at Saint-Cloud recently so
gets the nod here ahead of MONTJICA (12), who should be competitive if building on the promise
of her comeback (3rd). Having finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively in a meeting earlier this
month, PERCUSSION (7), PIERREFITE (5) and NOUR AYA (3) have legitimate ambitions too.
LEVANTE BREEZE (11) and BUTTE ROUGE (4) complete the shortlist.

SELECTIONS
LIWA OASIS (1) – MONTJICA (12) – PERCUSSION (7) – PIERREFITTE (5)
