Renaissance Woman primed for G1 glory
Smart three-year-old filly RENAISSANCE WOMAN is poised to claim the $700,000 Group One Queensland Oaks over 2200m from Eagle Farm Racecourse, Australia on Saturday.
RENAISSANCE WOMAN has built a handy record of three wins from 11 starts to date and has had a perfect preparation leading up to Saturday’s feature event. Resuming with a fair sixth-place finish over an unsuitable 1400m first-up, she went on to score the Listed Bracelet Stakes over 1800m before an eye-catching second-place finish in the Group 2 The Roses over 2000m last start.
With raging favourite Fireburn scratched from the Oaks, RENAISSANCE WOMAN’S job has been made all the more easy, and she should be proving very hard to hold out.
Pike to unleash Colossal effort
The adage “Pike in the last” can prove profitable on Saturday at Belmont Racecourse, Australia, as champion jockey William Pike partners four-year-old COLOSSAL in the $80,000 Ratings 66+ Handicap over 1000m.
COLOSSAL is second-up off a barnstorming run into second place at this track and distance on May 20. Well back in the run, COLOSSAL made up significant late ground to miss by a half-length on the line.
Standing out as the form choice in Saturday’s race, COLOSSAL, with race fitness on his side, should be getting his nose in front when it matters under a well-timed ride by Pike.
Sunday
Bayliss keen on Milingimbi
Four-year-old mare MILINGIMBI is primed to score a first-up win this Sunday when she contests the $30,000 BM58 race over 1100m at Murwillumbah racecourse, Australia.
MILINGIMBI has finished in the money six times from nine starts thus far and she was last seen finishing fifth in a 1400m race at Scone in December last year. Prior to that, the Stratum Star mare had been placed in five consecutive starts against similar opposition like this week’s.
MILINGIMBI has trialled well for her return and she is highly suited by the drop in distance. With jockey Jake Bayliss jumping on board, she can prove a big winning chance first-up.
Nestor looking Smart
Promising mare EXTRA SMART can land her second career win this Sunday when she lines up in the $27,000 Class 1 race over 1000m Muswellbrook racecourse, Australia.
A one-time winner with two placings from four starts, EXTRA SMART resumed with a fast finishing third at this track and distance two weeks ago. Despite a muddy tempo of the race, the daughter of Capitalist ran on well to miss by just over two lengths, which was clearly against the race shape.
This week, EXTRA SMART will strip much fitter second-up and from a decent draw, she should endure a nice run in transit and can prove hard to hold out for jockey Kody Nestor.
