The recent G1 Tunku Gold Cup should provide a reliable form line for the 1100m Supreme A contest (Race 9) at Selangor Turf Club this Sunday with five of the eleven participants emanating from the feature conducted a fortnight ago.
The minor place getters, AWESOME STORM (1) and WHITE HOOF BIRD (5) are set for a return clash with both runners assigned the same weight they carried in the group contest. AWESOME STORM (1) was beaten half a length after leading for most of the journey and set up some quick sectionals for the 1200m trip where the clocked stopped one second outside the course record. WHITE HOOF BIRD (5), with a local record of 8 wins from 16 starts, continued his excellent first up form when he made good ground to finish 3rd following a six month hiatus from racing. Also boasting a handy first up record is EXCELLING (6), which has been sharpened up by winning two sprint trials last month and may show up despite being off the scene for nearly a year. BERRY BLISS (9) is a progressive type which has made a rapid rise through the grades posting 7 wins from 14 runs locally and is more than capable of taking the next step. GINGERELLA (3) found the pace too hot in the cup but she will strip fitter second up while KONG FU PANDA (10) drew badly in the race and should improve on that performance.
OLYMPIA (4) should prove hard to beat in the 1200m Class 5 event (Race 12) to round out the program. The 5yo was nailed on the line, beaten a head when resuming here over 1200m a fortnight ago and appears ideally placed with a 4kg claim for apprentice, Tuan Ammar. ARROGATE ACHIEVER (5) closed off well when runner up over 1075m last start and is coming off a good trial here on Tuesday. JOEY (1) is one which has always displayed potential and lived up to those expectations with a maiden win over 1200m on May 7. The 5yo is worth following this campaign. GOLDEN SHOW (3) doesn’t win too often but is a trifecta chance coming off a last start placing at big odds while CITY KNIGHT (10) is well placed at the weights.
