A four-race card has been scheduled at Penang Turf Club this Saturday (June 10) Rapid Stakes A race over 1200m the feature event on the programme.
In that event, talented sprinter BIG DOCTOR, ridden by HS Gill, appears on track to maintain his unbeaten record in Penang after an excusable last-start 10th-place finish at Selangor.
Six-year-old gelding BIG DOCTOR has already created an impression on the Malaysian circuit by posting three successive wins from as many local starts since debuting here in February. The Cat Racing Stable-raced sprinter suffered his first local defeat after being sent out favourite in the G1 Tunku Gold Cup over 1200m a fortnight ago, but was only 3.75 lengths off the winner.
The former Australian galloper, where he raced under the name The Sinner and was a five-time winner from 22 starts, appeared uncomfortable and failed to settle when placed midfield in the run on that occasion, racing too keenly. BIG DOCTOR is a fast beginner who races best when allowed to roll forward and dictate, and will be suited back in home territory this weekend where he can bounce back to his winning ways.
Elsewhere, promising performer LEGACY ROAR returns to the race track and looks hard to beat first-up in the Class 4 contest over 1400m.
LEGACY ROAR finished unplaced from eight outings in Singapore prior to joining the Penang stables of Ananthen Kuppan late last year. The five-year-old struck immediately by winning at his first three local starts, all on his home track. LEGACY ROAR sustained a bleeding attack in March and has been off the scene for the mandatory three months. There is plenty of upside for this gelding, who was successful when resuming last preparation, and despite the 59kg, he should prove hard to beat on best form.
