South Africa Horse Racing Previews: KENILWORTH@2023.06.28
Kenilworth, 28.06.2023, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R175.000, 11:25GMT+2
Race Summary: WINTER RAINFALL may be the one to watch of the raced runners. The What A Winter filly could have made any amount of improvement during a layoff. DE JANEIRO and LOVE SHACK haven’t done badly and may earn a prize but the first is thin on form and the many newcomers need to be watched. Oratorio filly CABARET is bred to fly and could be the one but there are also two Gimmethegreenlights in the race namely PINEAPPLEMINTGREEN and THREE COINS. Follow the betting action carefully.
Selections:
#3 Cabaret, #1 Pineapplemintgreen, #11 Three Coins, #10 Winter Rainfall
Kenilworth, 28.06.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R125.000, 11:55GMT+2
Race Summary: SNOW PILOT will have gained valuable experience against his elders last time. He has run well in all starts to date and can score his overdue maiden win. TRIPPI’S SILK should prefer a bit further on pedigree but there was nothing wrong with his debut over this distance. JACK IN THE GREEN should also be wanting ground. He was too far back in his first outing but did make good headway and needs to be respected. ETOILEFILLANTE didn’t show much on debut but is a well-bred individual that may show a lot more this time. More first-timers to consider.
Selections:
#12 Snow Pilot, #8 Trippi’s Silk, #3 Jack In The Green, #11 Etoilefillante
Kenilworth, 28.06.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R125.000, 12:25GMT+2
Race Summary: HARAJUKU finished second best on debut and was most eye catching in his next race. It appears as if he will relish the trip on pedigree but does have the widest gate to jump from. Stablemate GRAVITY could be interesting. He is well-related being a half brother to high class sprinters and yet on running style he may prefer this distance. Both of OZARK’s last two races has produced subsequent winners and he has drawn well. He should be right there. LADY MAJORCA and SUNSHINE DAY take on males but look capable. Another that can improve is NO APOLOGIES.
Selections:
#9 Harajuku, #6 Gravity, #4 Ozark, #1 Sunshine Day
Kenilworth, 28.06.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R140.000, 12:55GMT+2
Race Summary: SPRING PALACE can go one better after being ousted late in his first run after a rest. He has scope for good improvement and from gate one should be hard to catch. HLUHLUWE and GREENLAND are unexposed as well and may not enjoy seeing their more fancied stablemate get away. GREENLAND is a half brother to champion Celtic Sea and has only had one racecourse visit so must be followed. MY GOLLY MOLLY impressed in his last start when beating SPRING PALACE but is now 3kg worse off for a neck beating and has drawn widest. MONUMENTAL appears a lot better than his last performance.
Selections:
#1 Spring Palace, #6 Greenland, #9 My Golly Molly, #4 Hluhluwe
Kenilworth, 28.06.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R100.000, 13:35GMT+2
Race Summary: KIMBALL O’HARA finally gets to go further again and it looks the perfect race. He has run in some competitive races but usually gets going too late. INSIDE STORY had excuses in his penultimate and didn’t enjoy the sudden drop in distance last time. He is better than that and could also benefit here. LIKETHECLAPPERS has been making respiratory noises and has been rested. If over his issues he could make full use of draw one and prove hard to catch. RUBERTUS won a Work Riders contest and the form line was franked last week. More can get into the money.
Selections:
#2 Kimball O’Hara, #3 Inside Story, #1 Liketheclappers, #8 Rubertus
Kenilworth, 28.06.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R100.000, 14:10GMT+2
Race Summary: Another lower division affair and here anything can happen so it may be best to go wide in exotic bets. WINTER PEARL ran a below par race last time but blinkers looked to have an adverse effect and they have been removed. He can go close on his previous efforts. CHARLIE MALONE has come down in the ratings and must show best form one of these days. Interestingly he won his last try over the distance which was eight starts back. EASY MONEY is a juvenile filly that has shown some talent. She could get her confidence boosted in this league. FINAL MOVE and PERSISTANCE need to be included as well.
Selections:
#6 Winter Pearl, #9 Charlie Malone, #3 Easy Money, #8 Final Move
Kenilworth, 28.06.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R110.000, 14:50GMT+2
Race Summary: Good 14-strong field of fillies and mares and the exotics will be well worth catching. PHILOSOPHISE enjoyed this trip a few runs back winning well. She has held form since and may notch up another win. METAR is another that is knocking at the door. She did very well from a wide draw in her last start and has now been given a plum gate. CLOUD CHASER didn’t run badly after just winning her maiden and the well-bred filly can make further improvement, but has drawn a bit wide. Capable SYMPHONY OF LIGHT has drawn widest. ISLAND TREASURE and TREASURE HUNT can feature strongly too.
Selections:
#6 Philosophise, #3 Metar, #9 Cloud Chaser, #1 Island Treasure
Kenilworth, 28.06.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 1950m, Turf, R100.000, 15:25GMT+2
Race Summary: LEGAL CHITCHAT could be well placed. He ran an encouraging race in his first post maiden outing and if staying this longer trip could move up the ladder. However TOTHEMOONANDBACK also appears to have hidden potential and he has secured gate one. He is related to decent stayers and has been given time to mature before a stint over distance. Stablemate DOUBLING UP could be the elect on riding arrangements. He has been a tad disappointing but he nevertheless needs to be taken seriously in this contest. MOTHERSHIP and TWICE THE MASTER have upset claims.
Selections:
#9 Legal Chitchat, #1 Tothemoonandback, #7 Doubling Up, #2 Mothership
Kenilworth, 28.06.2023, Race 9, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R125.000, 16:05GMT+2
Race Summary: Another race where leading trainer Justin Snaith looks to have a stranglehold with multiple runners. MUCHO DINERO promised much earlier, so much so that he was tried in the Grade 1 Splashout Cape Derby. He ran a fair race after gelding and is the one to watch. The wetter it gets the better NIGHT RULER does. The half brother to legend Jet Dark is in good form and should have every chance. ROYAL WATCH has also been consistent and will be having his third run after a rest so a peak effort can be expected. SELUKWE races for a stable that has found form and he has potential as well.
Selections:
#8 Mucho Dinero, #5 Night Ruler, #2 Royal Watch, #1 Selukwe
Best Win: #12 SNOW PILOT
Best Value Bet: #6 PHILOSOPHISE
Best Longshot: #6 PHILOSOPHISE
