Race Summary: Summary: Top international jockey Christophe Soumillon can get the ball rolling when he partners AMERICAN GRAFFITI (1) for Sean Tarry. She ran well below par in the SA Fillies Nursery won by her stable companion Mrs Geriatrix but had notched two-from-two before that. From the best of the draw with a world class rider aboard she must have a strong chance. Candice Bass-Robinson has a strong stable of two-year-olds and THE CHARLSTON (10) comes with strong Cape Town form. She has a wide draw as she goes the turn for the first time but she does look more than useful at this stage. SECRET IDENTITY (11) won well when finishing like a train to win her last start. Unbeaten at Greyville and must have a strong chance. ORIENTAL BOUQUET (4) ran well below form from a wide draw last outing. She has been around this turn and will improve on her last run. PE visitor IDITA (9) has useful form in feature company. She does have a wide draw to contend with but has a strong money chance.
Selections:
#1 AMERICAN GRAFFITI, #10 THE CHARLESTON, #11 SECRET IDENTITY, #4 ORIENTAL BOUQUET
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1300m, Turf, R400,000, 12:25GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: OUTLAW KING (4) has let the side down in his last two but had excuses at his penultimate start. He was second best behind the progressive Lucky Lad last outing but can go one better in this field. MAIN DEFENDER (1) is unbeaten in two and gives newly licensed trainer Tony Peter his first runner on July day. The gelding improved lengths on his debut win and stays the trip from the best of the draw. PURE PREDATOR (5) looks held by Main Defender but he does show promise and with some luck in the running he should be competitive. ETHANATOR (12) is still a maiden and drawn wide but will enjoy the extra and could be the dark horse.
Selections:
#4 OUTLAW KING, #1 MAIN DEFENDER, #5 PURE PREDATOR, #12 ETHANATOR
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 2200m, Turf, R250,000, 13:05GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Wide open. LORD WILLIAM (5) was making late progress behind July-bound Winchester Mansion. He has consistent form and the step up in trip could suit. ARAGOSTA (6) was second-best behind Runaway Song in the Track @ Ball Derby but he has come to hand nicely and should be stripped for this race. NEBRAAS (9) is first reserve for the Hollywoodbets Durban July and possibly a little unlucky not to make the field. However, his last run is best ignored and at best he will go close. SHANGO (8) is a past winner and was not far off them at his last start with a number of others in this race close-up. He tends to come good at this time of the year. JIMMY DON (15) Has a tricky draw and a big weight for a three-year-old over this trip which he tries for the first time. He has a more than competent rider in the saddle although Gavin Lerena has jumped ship to partner Shango.
Selections:
#5 LORD WILLIAM, #9 NEBRAAS, #8 SHANGO, #15 JIMMY DON
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 3000m, Turf, R250,000, 13:40GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Tough race. Dean Kannemeyer could hold the key here with his two runners RUNAWAY SONG (5) and REX UNION (14). The former stepped up over ground in formidable fashion, running on from last two win the Track and Ball Derby in a canter. He got a hefty shunt in the handicap for that win but he now appears to have found his optimum trip. Rex Union has come on well since arriving in KZN. He stays well but does look to be the stable second choice judged on jockey bookings. ARUMUGAM (10) is an out-and-out stayer and comes from a yard that knows how to prep them. He has a handy weight and is 3kg better off with FUTURE PEARL (4) who beat him the last time that they met.
Selections:
#5 RUNAWAY SONG, #10 ARUMUGAM, #14 REX UNION, #4 FUTURE PEARL
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R400,000, 14:20GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: MRS GERIATRIX (4) is unbeaten in four starts and was a comfortable winner of the Gr1 Allan Robertson beati ng a high class field. She goes the turn for the first time but has a good draw and can keep her record in tact for Sean Tarry. Biggest danger could be DISTANT WINTER (6). Candice Bass-Robinson’s filly has not been further back than second in five starts that included Cape Town features and comes off a winning double. EGYPTIAN MAU (11) took on males in a strong Gr1 field last time out. She won well on debut and should give a good account. WHITE PEARL (8) comes from a strong stable and both her wins have come over a similar trip. De Melo keeps the ride.
Selections:
#4 MRS GERIATRIX, #6 DISTANT WINTER, #11 EGYPTIAN MAU, #8 WHITE PEARL
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R500,000, 15:00GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: The Mike de Kock entry GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE (13) has a wide draw to contend with but he made good improvement after his maiden win to run out a facile winner of the Gatecrasher Stakes. The draw is a concern but he looks more than useful at this stage. The gray GUY GIBSON (5) found traffic in the Gr1 Gold Medallion and may well have finished closer than third. The step up in trip should suit. GOLDEN TATJANA (6) takes on a tough field of males but has yet to finish out of the money. ANDY COOGLE (3) is still a maiden but has raced green in both starts. The step up in trip from a plum draw can see him into the money.
Selections:
#13 GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE, #5 GUY GIBSON, #6 GOLDEN TATJANA, #3 ANDY COOGLE
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 2200m, Turf, R5,000,000, 16:00GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: RAIN IN HOLLAND (17) who has come to hand at just the right time. She won all three legs of the Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara last season that includes the Gr2 SA Oaks over 2400m so the July trip is well within her compass. She did have a spell in the doldrums but has come back strong in recent starts culminating in a comfortable win in the Gr1 Woolavington. Gr1 Daily News 2000 winner SEE IT AGAIN (7) has been the ante-post favourite for the past month and his position at the top of the boards was cemented with a smashing win in the Daily News. He does appear to be the horse to beat. DO IT AGAIN (6) has been written off by many with his best years behind him. However, although one from last in the Gr1 Gold Challenge in his warm-up he did not get the best of passages as he was making his run. He has been similarly unlucky in the last two July’s that he has contested and with better luck could make it three wins in this historic race. WINCHESTER MANSION (4). He has had two outings since being gelded. Arguably unlucky behind PACAYA (12) in the Gr2 WSB 1900, he booked his place in the field with a breathtaking win in the Gr3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial.
Selections:
#17 RAIN IN HOLLAND, #7 SEE IT AGAIN, #4 WINCHESTER MANSION, #6 DO IT AGAIN
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R1,250,000, 16:50GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Sean Tarry’s mare PRINCESS CALLA (10) is top class and was a comfortable winner of the Gr1 SA Fillies Sprint over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville but she is equally at home over a mile. She is in smashing form at present and could again put one over DESERT MIRACLE (6) who finished second in the SA Fillies Sprint. However, Mike de Kock’s filly has some explosive form on this course and will enjoy the extra. Stuart Pettigrew’s filly FEATHER BOA (14) was second best to Desert Miracle when last they met in the Gr1 Empress Club Stakes and does have a tough draw. But she is a big, strong filly and will run a forward race. GOLDEN HOSTESS (11) was far from disgraced in the SA Fillies Sprint the step up in trip will suit.
Selections:
#6 DESERT MIRACLE, #10 PRINCESS CALLA, #14 FEATHER BOA, #11 GOLDEN HOSTESS
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 9, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R500,000, 17:30GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Open handicap. THUNDERSTRUCK (7) came good when dropped back to a sprint after trying further at previous starts. He appears to be back to his top juvenile form. COLD FACT (6) takes on males but ran a cracker behind some top fillies in the Gr1 SA Fillies Sprint. She has a handy weight and can make an impression. GOBSMACKED (3) is way better than her last effort where she finished out of the money for the first time in seven outings. She has a handy galloping weight and the trip suits. SURJAY (11) has a wide draw but was staying on well in the Gr1 Golden Horse with Thunderstruck just ahead and they meet on the same weight terms. COSMIC HIGHWAY (12) could be the dark horse although his form would not suggest it. He has lost his way of late but on his best showing he could upstage all.
Selections:
#7 THUNDERSTRUCK, #6 COLD FACT, #3 GOBSMACKED, #11 SURJAY
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 10, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R150,000, 18:10GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Plenty in with winning chances. QUASIFORSURE (12) has a wide draw to contend with but he has strong form in good company. He may now be over his optimum trip. MONEY HEIST (4) was highly rated early on in his career but lost his way in the Cape. He appears to have found his form again and ran a cracking sprint last start. He will be much better over this trip from a good draw. MELECH (11) found Charles Dickens and the best of the country’s sophomores a little too strong for him but he has smart Highveld form in open company and has a money chance. CAPTAIN FONTANE (10) found himself a little out of his ground last run but was finishing off well. The extra furlong should suit. COIN SPINNER (1) goes this trip for the first time. He has useful sprint form and from the best of the draw he could surprise.
Selections:
#12 QUASIFORSURE, #4 MONEY HEIST, #1 COIN SPINNER, #11 MELECH
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 11, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R120,000, 18:50GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Not an easy handicap. ASIYE PHAMBILI (5) made a smart debut for Duncan Howells after returning from a rest. She can build on that run. Winner that day, VALERIAS DREAM (4), has consistent form and did well in the soft next time out. There should not be much between these two. LILLYBELLE (10) has been knocking on the door for some time now. She can find her best on this shorter trip on the poly. KAILENE (11) has a wide draw but her consistency was rewarded last run with an easy victory. She has come on steadily in recent outings and has a chance again.
Selections:
#5 ASIYE PHAMBILI, #4 VALERIAS DREAM, #10 LILLYBELLE, #11 KAILENE
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 01.07.2023, Race 12, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R120,000, 19:30GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Another tricky handicap. USA’S HOPE (2) has only been out of the money once in seven starts and was a little unlucky not to record his third win last time out. He meets PASSAGE OF POWER (3) on slightly better weight terms from when last they met and with both drawn well and with veteran Piere Strydom staying to ride in the last race, there should not be much between them. Highveld raider FOSTINOVO (5) is lightly raced and runner-up at his last two. He looks promising and must have a strong chance. FATEFUL DAY (7) was close up behind the top two selections when last they met and is a must inclusion in all exotic bets. FORMAGEAR (10) has come on well in recent outings and the cheek pieces are back on.
Selections:
#2 USA’S HOPE, #3 PASSAGE OF POWER, #10 FORMAGEAR, #5 FOSTINOVO
Best Win: #12 QUASIFORSURE
Best Value Bet: #17 RAIN IN HOLLAND
Best Longshot: #5 GUY GIBSON
