Victoria Racing Club announced on Monday that Hong Kong star Romantic Warrior will race in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes over 2000m on October 7 as the lead-up race to the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).
“Connections of the world’s seventh highest-rated horse Romantic Warrior have identified the Group 1 TAB Turnbull Stakes (2000m) as the first stop on their Melbourne campaign,” the article stated.
Romantic Warrior will mark trainer Danny Shum’s inaugural foray into Australian racing as his first horse to travel to the country.
Shum has previously achieved international success at Royal Ascot in 2012, where Little Bridge, ridden by the jockey Zac Purton, secured victory in the Group 1 King’s Stands Stakes (1000m).
Champion jockey James McDonald aims to extend his undefeated streak to four aboard Romantic Warrior, as he has been secured as the jockey for the Turnbull Stakes.
