Race Preview
R1 – PRIX DU PRESSING GRAND LARGE – 1400m (a7f) – TURF – Condition Race – Maiden – Flat – EUR € 23.000
1. WATHAB – Held on the form of his debut (3rd) by SHOOTER (2) but could get closer with
improvement likely. Chance
2. SHOOTER – Finished 2nd on debut for Simone Brogi, finishing ahead of WATHAB (1) and
GOLDEN STATE (5). Has since changed hands and stables, one to be with
3. MISTER SEGUI – Finished an encouraging 5th on debut and is likely to have come on from
that outing. Not taken lightly
4. BAK’S WOOD – Didn’t go unnoticed when finishing 4th on debut and would’ve gained plenty
from that experience. Lurker
5. GOLDEN STATE – Open to improvement after a pleasing introduction (4th) so could get into
the picture. Place chance only
6. MAGIC FALCON – Did not unnoticed despite showing his inexperience on debut and should
have more to offer. Keep safe
7. EL KALBITO – Unplaced in his two outings, finishing 6th on both occasions. Needs to improve
so is best watched for now
8. REVERSO – Finished 3rd on debut at Chantilly and ought to have made progress since, so
should play a role. Respect
Summary : After finishing 2nd on debut, SHOOTER (2) now races in the colours of Bertrand
Bélinguier and has since joined Jean-Claude Rouget. He is taken to confirm his promise by
improving to open his account at the expense of WATHAB (1) who finished 3rd on his
introduction behind the selection. REVERSO (8) ran creditably (3rd) on debut at Chantilly and
ought to be competitive if confirming that encouragement. MAGIC FALCON (6) is also likely to
improve with the benefit of xperience and can get into the picture.
SELECTIONS
SHOOTER (2) – WATHAB (1) – REVERSO (8) – MAGIC FALCON (6)
R2 – PRIX ZENITUDE ARCACHON – 1400m (a7f) – TURF – Condition Race – Maiden – Flat – EUR € 23.000
1. PERLI CHOPE – Did not go unnoticed on debut when finishing 6th and is likely to have
improved since. Has more to offer
2. ALPHABIA – Encouraging 3rd on debut in Madrid so cannot be discounted in her first start on
French soil. Keep safe
3. AVEC ELEGANCE – Runner-up in debut but failed to confirm that promise when only 9th last
time. Will need to reaffirm
4. ZVALIKOVA – Highly regarded filly, bumped a useful rival when finishing 2nd on debut. Could
improve to go one better
5. GARMI – Was not beaten far when finishing 7th of 11 on debut. Open to improvement so could
have a role to play
6. AURORE BOREALE – Is the most experience of this field but has finished unplaced in each of
her three outings. For another day
7. MISSION ALPHA – Finished 4th and behind ZVALIKOVA (4) when both were on debut. Should
improve so will be competitive
8. BLOOD DIAMOND – Not disgraced in finishing 4th on debut and would have gained plenty
from that experience. Can improve
9. NAFARROA – Well-related Kuroshio debutante (€28,000 purchase at the spring Breeze Ups)
who is the half-sister to Rue des Irlandais. Has claims
Summary : Runner-up on debut, ZVALIKOVA (4) is held in high regard by Jean-Claude Rouget
and ought to improve to open her account. MISSION ALPHA (7) finished 4th on her introduction
behind the selection and is likely to pose the biggest threat. Newcomer NAFARROA (9) is not
without a chance on debut, while ALPHABIA (2) has claims too after finishing 3rd on debut in
Madrid.
SELECTIONS
ZVALIKOVA (4) – MISSION ALPHA (7) – NAFARROA (9) – ALPHABIA (2)
R3 – PRIX LE JOURNAL “LE VEINARD” – 2000m (a1 1/4m) – TURF – Divised Handicap – Class 2 – Flat – EUR € 53.000
1. FANTASTIC SPIRIT – Former Jean-Claude Rouget inmate with serious means. Has shown his
form and well-being in Spain recently and, even under a big weight, ought to be competitive
2. DAYSHANN – Has been disappointing since winning at Pau in February. This shorter trip won’t
bother him but he’s got a lot of weight to carry. Unlikely
3. GIFT OF THE G – Unlucky two starts back but set the record straight last time when finishing
4th from a wide draw. Will be a factor
4. DANTES – Has gleaned his best titles over shorter distances and has not raced for three
months. Nevertheless, has proven his competitiveness off this mark and is ideally drawn in gate
No 1. On the shortlist
5. VA S’Y MIX – Consistent performer, who finished 5th in the race of reference last month. The
extra 200m won’t bother him nor will a firmer track. Can get onto the podium
6. SWISS BANK – Friendless in the market last time but defied big odds by finishing 3rd.
Appreciates this track but his wide No 15 gate gives him only a place chance
7. LILI BLUE – Has five places from nine Quinté+ starts. Needed the outing last time after a layoff
so should have more to offer here
8. EL TORERO – Produced a very good final effort to finish 2nd last time but the drying of the
track is unlikely to suit. His only attempt over a distance further than 1800m ended in failure
9. ELYMAS – Irreproachable in the second half of last year but has been inconsistent this season.
Hard to trust but is as hard to rule out
10. SAVE YOUR BREATH – Has won a Quinté+ is out of sorts at present. Dropped in the weights
and well placed in the starting stalls, it could cause a surprise
11. AICHE DE BRETEL – Had bad luck in the Prix du Bassin d’Arcachon but still ran with merit
(6th). The extra 200m will also be to her liking, so she looks formidable here
12. GUERREIRA – Has just shown a clear recovery in form at Mont-de-Marsan but faces a lot
stronger now without Lucas Armand’s allowance. Outsider
13. ONE MORE NIGHT – Undeniably capable but appears to have gone off the boil recently, so
needs to reaffirm. Could surprise
14. BACIVER – Finished 4th in a Quinté+ off a higher mark in March last year but has
disappointed since and tumbled down the weights/ratings as a result. Ioritz Mendizabal retains
the ride, upset potential
15. GAHERIS – Inconsistent sort who has been unconvincing in French handicaps and is drawn
widest in gate No 16. Hard to make a case for
16. AUTUMN PRIDE – Well-traveled veteran with interesting references, returned to form in a
handicap at Mont-de-Marsan last time. For lovers of outsiders
Summary : AICHE DE BRETEL (11) only narrowly failed to make the frame in her first outing at
Quinté+ level at La Teste last month having found the gaps to deliver her challenge hard to come
by. At the end of a more favorable run in transit this time, she can score at the expense of
returning DANTES (4), who has the means to fight for victory, and VA S’Y MIX (5) after a
creditable 5th in the Prix du Bassin d’Arcachon. GIFT OF THE G (3) has a good turn of foot so
could get into the fight if not too far out of his ground from a wide No 13 draw. FANTASTIC
SPIRIT (1) has form references at a higher level and remains capable of also making his
presence felt despite conceding weight to all. LILI BLUE (7), after a much-needed comeback run,
and EL TORERO (8) appeal most of the remainder.
SELECTIONS
AICHE DE BRETEL (11) – DANTES (4) – VA S’Y MIX (5) – GIFT OF THE G (3)
R4 – CRITERIUM DU BEQUET – VENTES OSARUS – 1200m (a6f) – TURF – Condition Race – Listed – Flat – EUR € 60.000
1. NOO POINT – Finished 4th at Catterick before winning easily at Chepstow last time. Starts on
French soil with legitimate ambitions
2. ZORKEN – Winner of his first two races before finding only champion Ramatuelle to good last
time. Can bounce back to winning ways
3. KUMITE – Runner-up to Beauvatier on debut and has won both starts since. Continues to
improve, so will be a factor
4. POUR DOMPTER – Was an excellent 3rd in the Prix Yacowlef over 1000m and will not be
bothered by the extra 200m. Respect
5. DELIA CHOPE – Has improved to finish 3rd in consecutive recent outings but has a lot more to
find to be competitive here
6. GOTTA SKEDADDLE – Inconsistent but is not devoid of ability. Will need to improve though to
get into the picture in this race
7. RECONNECT – Improving last-start winner who, with further progress expected, could expose
chinks in the armour of the principals. Dark horse
8. ECLAIRE LA VIE – Improved to win her second start after a no-show on debut but has
subsequently gone the wrong way, so needs to reaffirm
9. GODESSA – Consistent filly with solid form references. Finished 2nd at this track last time so it
would be dangerous to dismiss her chances
10. MESSINA – Debut winner who has since confirmed that promise by finishing 2nd last time.
Lacks experience and has more to do now
Summary : It was only high-class Ramatuelle who managed to finish ahead of ZORKEN (2) last
time, with the latter having won both his previous outings, and that 2nd in the Group III Prix du
Bois is the strongest form on offer here. KUMITE (3) is aiming for a third consecutive success and
seems capable of posing a threat. POUR DOMPT (4) is another quality colt who ought to have a
say. Trained by Archie Watson, who is generally very successful in France, NOO POINT (1) can
join in the fight.
SELECTIONS
ZORKEN (2) – KUMITE (3) – POUR DOMPTER (4) – NOO POINT (1)
R5 – PRIX LA SORELLINA – HYPER U GUJAN-MESTRAS – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – Condition Race – Listed – Flat – EUR € 55.000
1. BLUE BAYOU – Capable filly whose experience will stand her in good stead. Has more of a
place chance than a winning one
2. TURN CARTWHEELS – Consistent and classy filly who has finished in the first three in each
start. Has finished 2nd in consecutive outings at this level, obvious claims
3. START ME UP – Talented filly, finished 4th in the Group I Prix Marcel Boussac last year and
has improved with each outing this term. Keep safe
4. PRIJA – Finished a reassuring 3rd last time and should be competitive here if confirming that
improvement. Respect
5. ELOUNDA QUEEN – Has been primed to the minute for this objective and has just won with
ease at this course. Will be a factor
6. GARBO – Performed creditably at this level last time (5th) and could improve to get into the
picture. Place chance
7. PALERMA – Unreliable filly but has sufficient means and is capable of staking a claim even in
a race of this nature. Dark horse
8. GLITTERING LIGHTS – Consistent filly with solid form references, including a recent 3rd in her
debut on French soil. Has claims
9. SECRETIVE – Highly regarded, unbeaten filly who returns from a four-month absence with
serious ambitions. High on the shortlist
10. LOVE FOR LIFE – Undefeated over 1600m, winning both races over this distance in Madrid
recently. Has more to do here, so can aim only for a place
Summary : Having been carefully prepared for this Listed objective, ELOUNDA QUEEN (5) is
likely to win many votes. She won easily here earlier this month and is taken to follow up, though
consistent TURN CARTWHEELS (2) should be not underestimated. Absent since March,
undefeated SECRETIVE (9) is highly regarded by her trainer Yann Barberot so cannot be
discounted either. Of the remainder, PRIJA (4) makes most appeal.
