A good clash ensues in the 1200 Class 3 (Race 9) at Selangor Turf Club on Sunday where the progressive GOOD FIGHT (1) will be pitted against VULCAN (3), which produced an eye-catching effort when first up here three weeks ago. On his resumption from a two-month break, VULCAN (3) reeled off a quick sectional to finish 2nd, beaten 1.25L but he did finish ahead of his more fancied stable mate, Gamestonks which came out and won a listed feature in Penang last Sunday. VULCAN (3) has scored second up previously and if he repeats that last performance, he should prove the one to beat. However, GOOD FIGHT (1) has been progressing through the grades nicely building a record of 5 wins from 12 Malaysian starts and appears to be the main danger. TITAN PEGASUS (7) has also come a long way in five local runs posting two wins and was arguably a fraction unlucky last start when slightly checked at barrier rise here on June 18. The 6yo does perform well when fresh and looks a strong hope of striking a blow at handy odds. FLYING DURUMI (2) seemed to taper off towards the end of his last preparation but was still competitive at this grade. The American bred has made a rapid rise through the ranks since winning on debut back in January 2022 and he may come back a stronger conveyance following his time away from the race track. CHINA CAPTAIN (4) is one for the exotics following his sharp trial on Tuesday morning.
The Stayers Stakes B (Race 6) has attracted a handy field also with some inform gallopers set to clash in the 1600m contest. LEOPARD ECLIPSE (6) was ridden aggressively when setting a ballistic pace in the lead before he was overhauled to finish 3rd over 1800m here on July 6. The 7yo has won 2 from 3 over the mile and with a more patient ride, he has the capacity to land the major prize. There is no doubting about the current form of RAGNAR (2) which also possesses a good record at the journey with 3 wins from 6 starts and apprentice Haikal Hanif has developed a winning bond with the gelding. PASIR PINJI (4) has been in sparkling form this season with a Malaysian record of 6 wins and 2 seconds from 8 starts. The 7yo has never won over the mile from several tries but he has vastly improved with race experience and can be hard to beat when he resumes from a two-month spell. COLONEL CHIEF (3) won the G1 Coronation Cup over this distance back in November and can bounce back after finishing just outside the placings when a beaten favorite here last start.
