Two performers dropping back from the G1 Penang Sprint Trophy a fortnight ago appear to be the major players in the high grade 1200m Cosmo B contest (Race 6) at Perak Turf Club this Sunday.
Both ARC TRIUMPH (2) and MOONGATE LIGHT (3) were outclassed in the group feature but the pair will appreciate lining up against easier opposition in the set weights contest. ARC TRIUMPH (2) fared much better out of the two when finishing 5th, beaten 5.75L after leading for most of the 1400m journey. The 9yo also led at his prior start, indicating that he has recaptured his early pace this campaign and looks the likely leader in a race devoid of early speed. MOONGATE LIGHT (3) raced below expectations in the Sprint Trophy when he lacked early pace and was rearward throughout. However, his form in the high graded KL events does keep him under notice and a vast improvement would not surprise. The consistent EXDREAM (7) appears well weighted and has been competitive at this level in the past. The 8yo will find this an easier assignment after finishing 5th, beaten 5.5L, in the Dr Lim Ah Soo Memorial Trophy on Sprint Trophy day. Former Singapore Derby winner, OZZY STAR (1) (Ex Sun Marshal) had no luck when trapped wide throughout at his Malaysian debut and although he may find the 1200m trip a fraction short, he can improve second up. YOU ROKK (4) is an enigmatic type which hasn’t raced since pulling up lame on May 13 and is capable of an upset on best form.
Progressive mare, SKYLIGHT (2) can bounce back after her first defeat in the country last start when she goes around in the 1000m Hello August Handicap (Race 10). The 6yo created an immediate impression in the local ranks with two dominant victories over 1200m in KL by a combined margin of 9 lengths, leading throughout on both occasions. Different tactics were adopted last time when she was placed on the speed but refused to settle and over raced to eventually finish unplaced but not far from the winner. DRAGON CAVALLO (1) enjoyed an excellent campaign when last in work but has been off the scene since winning in KL on New Years Day. The Spirit Of Boom gelding won 3 from 5 locally and was also successful when produced first up last preparation. SUPER HERO (4) has ability and is a proven commodity in this grade while KRATOS (6) returned to his best form when placed in KL last month.
