The Prix Jean Romanet stands as a prestigious Group 1 horse race held at Deauville under Weight For Age conditions, exclusively for mares aged four years and above. Organized by France Galop, this race covers a distance of 2000 meters. Its inception dates back to 2004 when the inaugural edition saw Whortleberry emerge victorious.

Notably, the Prix Jean Romanet stands as the sole French feature event welcoming older mares, specifically those aged four and beyond. The race is named in honor of Jean Romanet, a dedicated figure in French Racing. It attained an elevation in status, transitioning from a Group 2 classification to Group 1 in 2009.

Jockey Frankie Dettori has secured victory in this race three times, while James Fanshawe holds the record as the most successful trainer with three wins. The only instance of a mare winning the Prix Jean Romanet in consecutive years was Satwa Queen, achieving this feat in 2006 and 2007.

One notable occurrence was in 2012 when the prominent mare Snow Fairy faced disqualification due to a positive swab in connection to the Prix Jean Romanet. Additionally, the renowned mare Verry Elleegant marked her debut race under new trainer Francis Henri Graffard in the 2022 edition, though her performance faltered on a firm track.

Breaking the trend of French winners, Aristia, trained by Richard Hannon Jr., triumphed in 2022. The prize money for the 2023 edition of the Prix Jean Romanet amounted to €250,000.

The annals of the Prix Jean Romanet feature noteworthy champions including Audarya (2020), Coronet (2019), Izzi Top (2012), Stacelita (2010), Satwa Queen (2006/2007), and Pride (2005).
