Six-year-old galloper SUNNY FIGHTER appears on target for a winning return in the RM22,000 Class 5 handicap over 1200m at Penang on Sunday.
SUNNY FIGHTER has descended back to a career low of 32 ratings points and is coming off an encouraging effort at this track three weeks ago. Settling towards the rear that day, the Redwood gelding showed a strong turn of foot from the 400m, before flashing home late into second, missing by only half a length over 1300m.
SUNNY FIGHTER has previously scored once on the 1200m Penang course and looks ideally weighted to break through for the first time this year.
Ng to get the Big Monkey off his back
The Bonny Ng-trained four-year-old BIG MONKEY looks on track to shed his maiden tag this Sunday when he lines up in the RM22,000 Class 5 race over 1600m at Penang.
Despite remaining as a maiden after five starts, BIG MONKEY has shown improvement at his last two starts. The son of America let down sharply to finish second over 1250m two starts ago before producing another solid effort last time out, when closing off well for a solid fourth over 1300m, while leaving the impression that he is crying out for more ground.
This week, BIG MONKEY is suited by stepping up to 1600m for the first time, and in a small field of six, his strong turn of foot holds him in good stead to score, as it is highly likely to be a sit-and-sprint race.
