Newly-licensed trainer Arumugam Palani saddled his first winner over the weekend when Lady Asta scored an impressive victory in the Class 5 1200m at Penang on Sunday.
Arumugam, who was licensed from 11 July 2023 to 31 December 2023, acquired Lady Asta just last month but finished down the track in seventh place in his first run for the horseman on 30 July.
Facing only four rivals in his latest assignment, Lady Asta was able to take the lead and show them a clean set of heels from start to finish, coasting to a commanding four-length victory.
Still, it was a bittersweet win for Palani, who narrowly missed out on a victory the day before when his highest-rated horse, Big Doctor, was beaten by top-class sprinter Awesome Storm in the Metro A race over 1275m on Saturday.
