Promising mare SKYLIGHT has made rapid progress through the grades since her local debut win in early June and is on track for another victory in the 1300m Independence Day Stakes at Ipoh on Saturday.
SKYLIGHT receives a pull in the weights against her more seasoned rivals following her promotion from Class 4 company a fortnight ago, where she dominated from the start by leading throughout, scoring by 2.5 lengths over the 1000m trip.
With three wins from four starts in the country, SKYLIGHT will be facing her biggest test as she steps up to the 1300m for the first time.
However, the six-year-old is capable of measuring up judging by her decisive victories in recent weeks and is a genuine winning chance again.
El Macho to flex his muscle
Seven-year-old galloper EL MACHO can atone for his narrow last-start defeat when he steps out in the 1300m Jasmine Handicap.
EL MACHO has attracted market support at each of his five runs this year and he didn’t let his supporters down with a first-up win last preparation over 1250m in KL on April 9.
EL MACHO resumed from an eight-week break and was once again heavily supported when finishing a neck runner-up over 1400m on 5 August. The gelding has visited the Ipoh circuit once for a minor placing and will strip much fitter from his encouraging performance last start.
Sacred can provide the ideal Tonic
New Zealand-bred performer SACRED TONIC appears well placed for a return victory in the 1200m Hibiscus Handicap.
SACRED TONIC has been racing consistently since dropping back to Class 4 company earlier this year, chalking up a number of minor placings along the way. The nine-year-old indicated a return to form last start when finishing runner-up behind promising galloper, Golden Payout, in KL on August 5.
The gelding has not won since taking out a Class 3 contest in June last year and looks capable of breaking the drought this weekend.
