This year’s Group One Tunku Gold winner SAN ANDREAS appears well placed to bounce back to winning form in the 1500m Metro A contest at Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
SAN ANDREAS has maintained good form since his memorable victory in the Group feature back in May, including a fast-finishing third in the G1 Penang Sprint Trophy two starts back. Last start, the seven-year-old closed off well from midfield to finish third behind talented performer Awesome Storm on the inner track a fortnight ago.
Despite his lack of early pace from the start, SAN ANDREAS does possess a quick turn of acceleration, which places him in good stead for a return to the winners podium this weekend.
Lim’s Unique to quickly atone
LIM’S UNIQUE backs up from his minor placing here seven days ago and will be seeking redemption in the 1600m Class 4 event.
LIM’S UNIQUE displayed a quick turn of speed over 1400m last Sunday when he closed off from a rearward position to finish third, beaten just under a length. The seven-year-old won impressively prior to that when defeating subsequent winner King Ravana in a 1700m Class 5, sprinting home from last to win on that occasion.
LIM’S UNIQUE appears well weighted to atone for last week’s defeat as he attempts to break through in Class 4 company for the first time.
Pacific Empire can make waves
Promising five-year-old PACIFIC EMPIRE will get his chance to pick up his second local win in the Class 4 Division B event over 1100m.
The KC Tiang-trained gelding has shown ability in four local starts since arriving from Singapore and was last seen checking in 2.5 lengths into second behind MR HANKS. The race shape looks vital to his winning chances as, if quality mare SIMLONG BEACH is afforded a soft lead, she could take catching. Still, PACIFIC EMPIRE should be within striking distance and can have the last say.
