Could French jockey Marc Lerner continue his red-hot form in the saddle for the remainder of September and match or surpass his highest number of wins in a month?
Lerner has dominated the past two weekends of racing by securing two four-timers out of 13 rides, boasting an impressive 61.5 percent strike rate. With this performance, Lerner has climbed to second place on the jockey ladder with 38 wins in 2023, although he still lags behind the runaway leader, Manoel Nunes, who has 73 wins.
Not since 2021 has Lerner had as much success in the saddle as he has in these past two weekends, where he achieved a total of 11 victories in October of that year. Historically, Lerner averages three wins per month in the post-COVID Kranji racing era, where racing was slashed from two meetings per week down to one.
The unassuming Frenchman’s current tally of winners for September carries even more weight considering there was no racing on the first Saturday of the month. With two Saturdays remaining for the month, Lerner could be in for a career-best month with the his current rich vein of form.
