The recent G1 Selangor Gold Cup should provide a reliable form line for this year’s Sports Toto Supreme Challenge Cup in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
The minor place-getters from that contest are likely to dominate the betting markets, with BERRY BLISS and AWESOME STORM finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the September 17 feature.
BERRY BLISS has the advantage of more experience over the 1400m trip, and his record of three wins from five races at this distance will stand him in good stead. AWESOME STORM, on the other hand, boasts superior class, and his performance in the cup was excellent considering he started from the outside gate with a 60kg impost in his first attempt over the mile.
SINCERELY and KONG FU PANDA just missed out on the placings in the Selangor Cup, but both have race fitness on their side, having filled the minor placings in a Metro A race here two weeks ago.
Olympia hat-trick bound
In-form six-year-old Olympia appears poised to secure its third consecutive victory in the upcoming 1200m Class 4 contest this Sunday.
Olympia displayed remarkable improvement since transferring to Malaysia, triumphing by 1.75 and 4.75 lengths respectively in his last two runs. What’s likeable is Olympia’s ability to lead from start to finish – a solid attribute.
Even in the previous race, Olympia competed in a higher class but still managed to set the pace in the 1100m race held on September 30. Anticipations are high that Olympia will maintain its position as the front-runner in the upcoming race, making it a challenging feat for his rivals to run him down.
