Promising five-year-old SUPER SUNNY SING is poised for more significant racing success this Sunday as he competes in the Group 3 Ladies’ Purse Handicap over 1800m at Sha Tin.
Trainer Chris So’s stable star was a dominant force as a four-year-old last season, securing his first feature race victory in the Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) before finishing eighth as the second favourite in the Hong Kong Derby.
He was the only runner in the Derby who did not race between the coveted race and the end of the 2022-23 campaign, but he made a promising return on opening day this season, finishing third over 1400m.
In his second race back, SUPER SUNNY SING stepped up to the mile and delivered impressively as the well-backed $1.8 favourite, setting the stage for an encouraging season ahead. A win on Sunday would further enhance SUPER SUNNY SING’S credentials as he looks forward to December’s HKIR.
Love to conquer all
Keep an eye on newcomer PARENTS’ LOVE in the Class 4 Handicap over 1000m. The Tony Cruz-trained three-year-old has demonstrated enough ability at the trials to suggest he’s right in the mix in Sunday’s clash.
PARENTS’ LOVE is well prepared with three trials leading up to Sunday’s event, with his two most recent hit outs full of promise. The Deep Field gelding, who was a A$215K purchase at the 2022 Inglis Ready2Race Sale, has shown likeable gate speed and in his most recent hit out, he looked full of running through the line with up-and-coming four-year-old INVINCIBLE SAGE just behind. It’s only trial form, but INVINCIBLE SAGE subsequently bolted up on his first-up assignment.
PARENTS’ LOVE steps away from barrier 7 under an in-form Angus Chung, who is fresh off a winning treble at Happy Valley on Wednesday night.
