British jockey Harry Bentley was charged under the rules of racing by Hong Kong Jockey Club stewards on Thursday, 9 November. However, specific details about which rule or rules he has breached remain undisclosed.
A brief statement released on Thursday night stated: “The Stewards have charged licensed jockey Mr H Bentley under the Rules of Racing. The hearing of the charge has been deferred, at Jockey Bentley’s request, to Monday, 13 November 2023, to allow his legal representative to appear at the hearing.”
It has been almost a week since the investigation first came to light when Bentley was suspended from all racing activities – races, barrier trials, and trackwork – on Friday, 3 November. The initial hearing occurred on Monday and continued into Tuesday. However, officials adjourned their inquiry until a charge was officially made on Friday.
During Monday’s proceedings, trainer Dennis Yip was present, sparking significant interest as Bentley had only ridden for the veteran handler once this season – aboard Flying Dragon in the Class 4 Tin Ha Shan Handicap (1200m) on October 25.
