December 9 Penang Preview by Mark Lydeamore

Selangor trainer, Sharee Hamilton catapulted to outright second on the trainers premiership after saddling six winners in Kuala Lumpur last weekend and the former Penang resident will be represented by six runners on the four-race card this Saturday.

One of her winners from last week is the vastly improved 6yo BATTLESTAR (2), which is aiming for the hat trick and looks hard to beat in the 1200m Class 4 contest (Race 3). The stable has three of the five runners engaged including fast beginner, SIMLONG BEACH (4) which has tapered off slightly in form but can easily bounce back. GHOST MARI (1) was a recent maiden winner and will find this race a much easier assignment after finishing unplaced in the listed Ipoh Charity Cup two weeks ago. MYO (3) wasn’t far away when resuming from a short break and will strip fitter.

Another Hamilton starter on the quick back up is SILVER JOY (5) engaged in Race 1. The 8yo led and weakened over the mile last Sunday but should be suited dropping back to the 1300m trip. The two top weights can score on best form with SUNNY STAR (1) trialling well during the week while LISBOA STAR (2) has dropped to a winnable rating and closed off well when placed in Ipoh last start. LEEDSTHEWAY (6) and PENANG MAN (8) can round out the trifecta on the minimum weights.

Race 1 Selections: 5 – 2 – 1 – 6

Race 2 is an open contest with several winning hopes. Hamilton is represented by proven Class 5 performer MY MONEY (1) which was a beaten favourite last time and despite rising 4kg, can make a winning return. BIG MONKEY (3) broke the duck here recently and a return to its home track should enhance his chances. TRIPLE ONE STAR (5) has descended in the ratings and the 10yo is poised to strike in Class 5 company. UNSHADOWED GENERAL (4) led throughout in Ipoh a fortnight ago and has maintained form with a solid trial win in KL during the week.  The form of SUNNY FIGHTER (2) has tapered off but six of his seven career wins have been recorded in Penang suggesting he saves his best for this track.

Race 2 Selections: 1 – 3 – 5 – 4

The final race is a lowly Class 5 affair and the locally trained BIG POWER (2) can atone for his recent defeat. The 6yo looked set for victory before he was nailed on the line by PARISBAS (4), which broke a six and a half year drought in posting his first Malaysian victory. LUKE MAN (3) is a forward runner with claims while the Kevin Coetzee stable mates, YOU ARE GENIUS (5) and GAIN ECLIPSE (6) are back to career low ratings and should not be dismissed.
