Trainer David Eustace will bolster the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s training ranks starting from the 2024/25 racing season after accepting an invitation to train in Hong Kong. Eustace is scheduled to depart from his current role with Ciaron Maher Racing at the end of January.

Renowned for his thorough and patient approach, Eustace has made an indelible impression in his short career. The son of Newmarket trainer James Eustace and brother to emerging young handler Harry Eustace and nephew to former Hong Kong Trainer David Oughton, the young Englishman has quickly assembled a formidable record and reputation.

After spending his formative years in his father’s yard, Eustace transferred to top British trainer Roger Varian and was entrusted with the responsibility of travelling horses for one of the United Kingdom’s leading stables. A capable amateur jockey, Eustace’s desire to expand his capabilities prompted him to move to Australia where he worked with Peter Moody, trainer of unbeaten champion sprinter Black Caviar, and Peter and Paul Snowden. Eustace then enlisted with top Victorian trainer Ciaron Maher as Maher’s assistant. Eustace’s meticulous attention to detail eventually led to his promotion as Maher’s co-trainer in the 2018/19 Australian season.

Since then, Eustace and Maher have totalled a remarkable 1,538 wins, including 30 Group 1 victories crowned by Gold Trip’s G1 Melbourne Cup triumph as well as G1 wins in the Sydney Cup, Black Caviar Lightning Stakes, Australian Derby and a host of other coveted races. In tandem with Maher, Eustace has not only saddled elite sprint, middle distance and staying victors, but he has also featured in a series of hurdling and steeplechase successes as evidence of his horsemanship.

The pair’s expertise saw Maher and Eustace land the Australian trainers’ premiership in 2022/23 with 347 wins, toppling Chris Waller. In partnership with Maher, Eustace has helped land a string of Victorian championship, including metropolitan and provincial titles.
