RACE 1 1000M CLASS 5
Following a string of four minor placings in a row, 10yo SPEEDY DEMON (2) has a chance to bounce back for the V Sivan stable. The gelding is a reliable beginner and he also benefits from the kg claim for apprentice A Azizi. HARVEYWALLBANGER (3) never appeared to be in any doubt when leading throughout, scoring by 5L over 1200m three weeks ago. The 9yo is capable of repeating the dose despite the 7.5kg rise in the weights. JAPAN CAPTAIN (7) is another fast beginner and if apprentice SN Shiva can ride him at the 49kg, he gains a big weight advantage on his rivals. THE SWAN (5) looked a shade disappointing when resuming over 1400m in KL on December 24 but the mare has placed second up previously and the drop in distance will suit also. FLYING SPIDER (6) has place claims on the seven day backup.
Selections: (2) Speedy Demon (3) Harveywallbanger (7) Japan Captain (5) The Swan
RACE 2 1200M CLASS 5
ROCK ME EASY (2) is racing in good form for the Peter Lee stable he and wasn’t disgraced here last weekend when closing off well to finish 3rd over 1300m. The 9yo picked off a couple of Class 5 races in November and looks the one to beat. YOU ARE SPECIAL (9) has descended back to a winnable rating with the lightweight and looks a chance despite the wide draw. DESIRE SKY (1), a former Class 1 galloper several seasons ago, is back to a career low 35 points and drops back to the Class 5 “B” division for the first time. COUNTRY LAW (10) is still a maiden and can improve on the minimum weight while USA CAPTAIN (8) won a trial in slow time recently.
Selections: (2) Rock Me Easy (9) You Are Special (1) Desire Sky (10) Country Law
RACE 3 1200M CLASS 4
Former Singapore galloper, BLAZING KID (1) makes his local debut and has been well prepared with a couple of trial wins at the track in recent weeks. The 6yo is coming off some handy formlines in Kranji, including two wins there last season and will be first up for eight months. SPIDERMAN (3) coasted to a 1.75L victory last Saturday and will rise 3.5kg in the weights. The 4yo has improved with race experience and should settle on the pace again. NAGAS KING (2) returned to form after a lameness issue at his local debut in early November. The 4yo finished 2nd behind progressive performer, Super Happy in KL on December 24 indicating that he will be a force to be reckoned with in this grade. ZAC ACE (7) always runs well when resuming and he gave plenty of cheek when finishing runner up behind SPIDERMAN (3) last week. It was the 10yo’s first start for seven months and has claims on the minimum. ZHU CAPTAIN (5) has experienced injury issues throughout his career but is capable of winning on best form.
Selections: (1) Blazing Kid (3) Spiderman (2) Nagas King (7) Zac Ace
RACE 4 1400M CLASS 5
The Penang trained BIG MONKEY (1) was nosed out by Modric in Penang at their cup meeting last month and despite three unplaced efforts on the Ipoh circuit, the 4yo can quickly atone. INTROIT (2) has closed off well at his past two outings and is a two time winner at the journey. HELLO MONDAY (3), a winner over this track and distance two starts back, will be reacquainted with S Ruzaini and the mare looks a genuine chance with the 52.5kg. LEEDSTHEWAY (6) is a moderate beginner who normally gives away a big start to his rivals. The 6yo does require a relatively quick tempo in the race as he does possess a quick burst of acceleration when called upon. ULURU (5) led throughout over 1300m here last Saturday and will benefit from the 3kg apprentice claim.
Selections: (1) Big Monkey (2) Introit (3) Hello Monday (6) Leedstheway
