February 24 Selangor Preview by Mark Lydeamore

The inner track (Track Two) will be in operation for the eleven race card at Selangor Turf Club on Saturday headlined by the 1175m Metro A contest (Race 9).

Looks to be an even lineup on form where HIGH WATER (7) has finished close up in recent starts over the 1200m trip and will be suited by the slight distance drop. A winner of four from eight at the distance range, the 6yo was placed in this company two weeks ago and can bounce back to winning form for the second time this year. WECANDO (8) has been a most consistent performer since crossing the causeway, missing the place once in seven Malaysian starts. Despite drawing the outside gate, the 9yo looks a major player after chasing home smart mare, Skylight over 1200m here on February 11. SINCERELY (1) had been contesting some of the group races last year and will be first up since finishing unplaced in the G1 Coronation Cup last November. The 8yo stays under notice due to a handy record when resuming (6-3-1-0). STAR BULLET (6) has had a few internal issues throughout his career, hence the 8yo has started 9 times for 4 wins locally and returns from a bleeding attack sustained in July last year. On best form he should be competitive and goes well first up as a rule. GRAND CHOICE (5) has scored three times on the inner track and will be freshened for Saturday’s contest.

Under the handicapping conditions, the top two runners in the weights, namely INTENT (1) and ROCKET HORSE (2), will gain a big advantage over their rivals and should provide the quinella in the 1175m Max Two Stakes (Race 6). ROCKET HORSE (2) created a big impression in only three runs last preparation, including successive victories on the inner track back in May and June prior to spelling. The 4yo enters Saturday’s race without a trial but has the class to win first up. Former Kiwi galloper, INTENT (1) scored on his local debut in November and has maintained solid form since. The 4yo was posted outside the leader in the fast paced Wilyah Silver Bowl over 1200m a fortnight ago and will find this a much easier assignment. TYPHOON (3) has scored twice in five runs locally, both in Class 5 grade, and is a definite place chance despite the class upgrade. GIVE ME FIVE (5) has not raced for 13 months and will be debuting for the HY Cheng stable. A one time winner over the mile in New Zealand, the 5yo looked sharp in its trial during the week and is one to watch. GOLDEN MAN (6) is yet to win from 12 starts in the country but finished close up in a Class 4 contest last start.
