February 25 Perak Preview by Mark Lydeamore

A small but select field engaged in the 1300m Enrich Stakes A contest (Race 5) will headline the ten race program at Perak Turf Club this Sunday.

Former Kiwi galloper SHIMI GO (2) has been one of the most progressive gallopers in the country since making its Malaysian debut in September last year. Unbeaten in his first three outings, the 5yo suffered his first defeat when finishing runner up behind smart 3yo Military Flag when coming off a two month break. SHIMI GO (2) scored in a previous appearance on the Ipoh track and possesses the class to strike back this weekend. WAR DRAGON (3) continues to race well and is coming off successive minor placings, the most recent a short head defeat at the hands of inform galloper, The Mareeba Mango in KL two weeks ago. The 9yo does possess a quick burst of acceleration and despite a long career, has only started once in Ipoh when placed 3rd in the 2019 G1 Perak Gold Vase. Arriving from Singapore as a six start maiden, SKYLIGHT (5) has made rapid progress through the grades since winning at her local debut back in June. The 6yo mare has built a record of 4 wins from 9 runs locally and is coming off a Class 3 victory last start. CHINA CAPTAIN (1) backs up quickly from his unplaced effort in KL and can surprise on best form. SPEEDY MISSILE (4) does have the tendency to give away big starts due to his moderate pace from the barriers but the 7yo has closed off well in recent outings.

From the outside barrier and with luck in running, APIS (9) appears well weighted to score in the 1200m Class 4 event (Race 3). The 4yo had little luck when trapped wide throughout to finish 3rd over 1100m in KL on February 12, his first start for seven weeks. He should strip fitter from that performance and looks a winning chance with the 55.5kg. BLAZING RED (4) has showed he is capable of winning soon following minor placings at his first two runs in the country. The 6yo was a beaten favorite on both occasions and will be looking to break through for the first time since May 2022. FA FA STAR (1) is a fast beginner and drops in class following two runs this campaign. The 6yo finished close up against Class 3 opposition last start and will be looking to bounce back. Veteran performer, TERMS OF REFERENCE (6) is still competitive at this level and is a trifecta chance while GHOST MARI (2) pulled up lame last time and will have the big weight to contend with.
