Quality colt, MILITARIZE, will look to add a fourth Group 1 victory to his tally of wins as he leads the entry in the $1 million Randwick Guineas over the mile on Saturday.
MILITARIZE holds favouritism for the feature event this weekend following his barnstorming run into second place in the Apollo Stakes to Fangirl at his first-up mid-last month.
“He should be peaking for Saturday’s race, stepping up to a mile, he’s already won a Group 1 race over this distance,” trainer Chris Waller said speaking of his G1 mile win in the Champagne Stakes in April last year.
Only three other runners are in single figures in the betting; second favorite CELESTIAL LEGEND, third favorite TOM KITTEN, and then ENCAP.
Espiona well placed in Canterbury Stakes
Just a small field of seven will step out in Saturday’s $750K Group 1 Canterbury Stakes over 1300m at Randwick, Australia, with last year’s The Everest winner, THINK ABOUT IT, the short-priced favourite to take it out.
THINK ABOUT IT is first-up since November last year when he finished third in the $3 million Giga Kick Stakes over this distance. It’s not surprising to see him as the well-fancied runner in the betting given the weight-for-age conditions, but ESPIONA, trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald, looks well placed to test THINK ABOUT IT’S mettle.
ESPIONA is a three-time winner from five starts when produced second-up and was solid first-up over 1000m, suggesting she has come back as good as ever this preparation.
